Earl Nightingale states, “Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.” The poem, A Raisin in the Sun is still relevant today because racism and segregation prevents achievement of the American Dream.
Mama’s dream will help the family move upward because if they move into a better house in a better neighborhood, with better schooling, the Youngers could get a better lifestyle and reputation. Leonard Boswell states “The American Dream is one of success, home ownership, college education for one's children, and have a secure job to provide these and other goals.” This shows achievement of the american dream as well as movement upward in society. Redlining is where real estate agents mark “red lines: on the map determining where a family of a specific race will live, creating segregation. In the play, racism and segregation was represented when Linder stated, “It is a matter of the people of Clybourne Park believing, rightly or wrongly, as I say that for the happiness of all concerned, that out Negro families are happier when they live in their own communities” (Hansberry 118). Linder is trying to use the same concept as redlining and excluding any family of a different race.
