What happened to the dinosaurs? Why did they disappear? Dinosaurs roamed this earth from around 231 million years ago to 66 million years ago; that’s 170 million years of existence! Some event must have happened to wipe out these prehistoric animals. Many scientists believe an asteroid impact was responsible for the dinosaurs demise. Others contend volcano eruptions had something to do with it. A few others solely believe climate change was the one and only culprit. There are also some outcasts that have their own ideas about the dinosaurs quietus. These questions have intrigued humans since the first fossils of these animals were discovered nearly two centuries ago. During this time, dinosaurs came and went, and through the years, they evolved and some died out. Scientist track dinosaurs evolution and their extinction through giving each advancement a time period. These time periods include the Triassic, the Jurassic, and the Cretaceous. Both the Triassic and the Jurassic periods had extinctions but not the mass extinction most people are aware of. The most widely viewed dinosaur extinction period was in the Cretaceous. Charles Q. Choi explains that the Cretaceous mass extinction is known as the K-T Boundary. K-T marks the end of the Cretaceous (K) period and the beginning of the Tertiary …show more content…

However, there are a few scientists who stray from popular belief and search for answers elsewhere. Gianluca Brocchi wrote an article explaining that Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest could have something to do with dinosaur extinction. In “The Case of the Disappearing Dinosaurs,” Bocchi wrote that dinosaurs and mammals may have been pitted against each other in an environment with very little supplies (1). Because of this, there was a conflict between these animals. Dinosaurs were powerful creatures but warm-blooded mammals were more adaptable to changing climate. They were smaller, smarter, and agiler creatures; evolution was on their
