Restaurants such as McDonald’s, Burger King, and Carl’s Jr. have become common household names with a reputation: it is cheap and tastes good. Unfortunately, many people do not notice that these restaurants are the source of obesity amongst the United States. Although some argue that people are obese because they choose to be, others say that the fast-food industry is the one to blame. Fast-food restaurants should be held accountable for one’s obesity because of the restaurants advertisements that target children, ingredients that are unknown, and convenient food pricing.

Fast-food restaurants are the reason adults and children deviate from having healthy eating habits. The advertisements along the highway or on the television always show burgers with a fluffy bun, juicy meat, melted cheese, with a side of crispy fries, and a perfect drink, but what is the food really made …show more content…

Robert Kenner claims that the reason people are getting sick from this type of food is not because of the lack of personal responsibility, but instead it is because the consumers are not receiving all of the information (Food, Inc.). When ordering from a fast-food restaurant, the menu items do not include what the food is actually and entirely made of. Restaurants might be using some kind of substance to enhance a chicken’s physique which causes the person to gain weight along with more internal damage. In Food, Inc. Robert Kenner explains, “We have a whole new kind of food system. It looks the same. But it’s fundamentally different we’re being kept away from knowing what’s happened to our food system.” Fast-food restaurants are not telling their customers what is happening in the food system and if it is detrimental or not. The restaurants will not show how the animals are treated, where the food comes from, if there are any strong chemicals put into the food, and how exactly the menu items are being created. How does this cause obesity? If the meat is not 100% meat, what is it? It might be a meat substitute that piles on the fat continuously. Therefore, people still continue to eat at fast-food restaurants because the possible chemicals in the food leave the taste buds wanting more which leads to the consumer to buying these
