So what makes Beowulf an epic hero? Beowulf can be claimed an epic hero a lot of ways, but here is only three way he is an epic hero. He can be an epic hero because he is a courageous warrior, worthy king, and gained a lot of wisdom. He done that with all the battles with the battles with Grendel, Grendel's Mother, and the Dragon.
When Beowulf and Hrothgar was in the Heorot Hall, Beowulf owes Hrothgar a favor so He told Hrothgar That he would fight Grendel all by himself. So King Hrothgar accepted his offer. When Grendel came back to attack the Heorot Hall, Beowulf would be ready to attack him. So the night that Grendel can back Beowulf and the Geats lied down and fell asleep. Hrothgar stated that Grendel’s mother lives there. He puts his faith in Beowulf and promises more rewards if Beowulf comes back alive and the monster dead. With Beowulf comforting Hrothgar, he stated the everyone dies and it is better to avenge love ones then to mourn over them. Beowulf promises to track down Grendel’s mother and to kill her. Beowulf would have no problem to find her because she is dragging the body of Aeschere behind her. Then they came to a place where the trees grow out sideways, and then the path suddenly stopped. They finally came to a dead end where the cliff ends and is disturbed to see the head of Aeschere’s head at the foot of the cliff. Beowulf finally told Hrothgar goodbye and if he is killed in battle to send the treasure that was promised to Beowulf to the Geats King Hygelac.
