Another reason the older sister is jealous of Stella –Rondo is because she never appreciates what others do for her. Stella-Rondo has a tendency to mistreat the things that she gets from people and her parents. For instance, in the short story the narrator mentions “she always had anything in the world she wanted and then she’d throw it away” (437). When the older sees that Stella-Rondo throws away the good things that she receives from her parents she gets upset with her younger sister. The older sister thinks that is unfair that she can have anything she wants, but she chooses not to appreciate or take care of the good things her parents give.
She does not understand that she being the daughter of the employee, and therefore belongs to a lower social class than Luciana. As Rosaura becomes more aggravated with her mother she is disrespectful and yell, “Shut up! You know nothing about the being friends”(1). Rosaura belittles her mother’s opinions thus highlighting the narrow-minded perception of her position on the social ladder. In this way, Rosaura feel superior to her mother and she tries to distance herself from her.
Her immediate instinct when she learns of her neighbor’s death is to cancel her party out of respect for the dead, even though she had never met him and he was of a much lower social class than herself. She believes entirely that her mother will agree with her, being shocked and asking "Mother, isn't it terribly heartless of us?" which shows how disappointed in herself she would be, were she to continue with the garden party. Laura’s doubts are quickly erased when her mother presents her with a beautiful hat and tells her she is being “extravagant” in trying to prevent the party from happening. Any time the death is brought up again, she immediately returns to her guilt over the situation.
Laura has the complete opposite temperament of her vivacious mother. Laura always wants to please her mother. Her mother makes her feel guilty about being shy and fearful. She lies to her mother about dropping out of Business School because she cannot bear to see her mother's pain and disappointment over the news. Amanda does not consider her daughter's feelings.
The stepmother is not at fault here, her only intentions were to make sure her daughter stays happy and for that she kept ignoring and treating Beauty poorly. And before she could realize it she had turned into an ungrateful stepmother who did not like her stepdaughter at all because she was so involved in her daughter 's happiness. Since the entire neighborhood knew about Beauty and Pock Face it was evident that one was looked upon as pretty while the other addressed as ugly. Any mother cannot tolerate the consistent rejections of proposals that Pock Face got. Therefore the stepmother took this step and chose Pock Face over Beauty in
She seems to get this from her mother, which is always worried about her daughter and what boys might do to her. Lorraine's mother worries that she is wearing too short of dresses, or that the things that she wears are too "sexual". Even though Lorraine is quite paranoid, she doesn't seem to have a problem with ditching school. This is something that her and John would do often after they met the Pigman, Mr. Pignati. It seemed that she would never be the type to throw a party.
Mr. Wright was guilty of dominating and suppressing his wife. The suppression she dealt with made her unable to be a part of society “she didn’t even belong to the Ladies Aide” (Glaspell 1328). A suppressed and emotionally hurt individual sometimes make unreasonable decisions. Marriage for most women should be the time, she blossoms into a beautiful person. Thus, Mr. Wright was guilty of bringing out the worst in his wife.
Logan falls short of fulfilling that dream as he isolates her from the community, leaving her with no voice whatsoever. Realizing her marriage lacks love and compassion which she longs for, Janie comes to understand that her relationship with Logan will not last long .Not only does Janie’s marriage to Logan stifle any hopes of exp... ... middle of paper ... ...disrespect from Tea Cake. She threatens him, saying if he leaves her again without her permission she will “kill yuh” (124). Within Janie’s past marriages her husbands treat her comparable to a slave and isolate her from the community. Even though her voice is still developing, she will not allow her husband to show her contempt.
So she poisoned him with arsenic. She needed someone to love her eternally, and someone to love. She did not have any family members to love and nurture, to turn to for love or support. The few family members she had thought she was crazy, but actually they were even more proud of their position in the society. They prohibited her relationship with Homer.
With Gertrude saying ‘all that lives must die’ she is stating that it is no big deal that his father, her husband, has just passed away since it is completely normal and it happens to everyone. Hamlet sees this as complete disrespect towards his father since it has barely been two months since his death and she has already stopped mourning. Hamlet lets her know that just because he looks like he is depressed does not mean that he is, she does not know how he is feeling on the inside, only he knows that. With Gertrude’s lack of respect for Hamlet’s feelings regarding his father’s death, he is justified for his bitter and hostile view of
