The intriguing article by Alfie Kohn discusses what it means to be well-educated. Using his wife Alisa, a Harvard Graduate as a prime example. Alisa is a well-educated, excellent, practicing medical physician completing over twenty-nine years in school. “After a dozen years, I continue to be impressed on a regular basis by the agility of her mind as well as by how much she doesn't know” Kohn, A. (2003). Alisa lacks basic English and Math skills such as grammar and multiplication. This causes you to think about what does it mean to be well-educated. “What she lacks hasn't prevented her from being a deep-thinking, high-functioning, multiply credentialed, professionally successful individual” Kohn, A. (2003).

Your education is what allows you to properly achieve these goals.

The amount and quality of your education determines how much money you make. It seems stereotypical but let’s take a look at two examples:
1. Two high school teachers at the same school, teaching the same course. One instructor has a PhD the other has a Bachelors. Who gets paid more? The instructor with the PhD
2. Two employees hired at the same time, for the same position. Who has the higher base salary? The Stanford University or Minnesota State Graduate? The Stanford Graduate

This definition consists of more than one attribute. So what should you and shouldn’t you take in account when considering someone.

Throughout school you are given test like midterms, finals, high school exit exams and SAT/ACT to evaluate your knowledge on specific subjects. However, there are several academic scholars who discuss and discredit the accurateness of these test. Scoring higher on a test doesn’t mean your smarter than some one who scores lower.
