Names can tell you a lot about a person. For example, in Hindi, one of the official languages of India, the word “muskan” means “smile.” As an infant who smiled a lot, my parents named me “Muskan” and the name stuck. I still smile a lot, and I have even had a few classmates actually say that I smile too much (I am not kidding!), which I find funny. I think that my name (and my smile) show most people that I’m usually happy. Along with that, I want to make people happy, because no one deserves to be miserable. A year later, I began my formal education at Eisenhower Elementary School for seven years. Then, I went to Whitman Middle School. After that, I was enrolled in Wauwatosa West High School. Throughout my educational experiences, I learned not only about social studies, math, and English, but I learned ome very important life lessons. I also made some very considerate friends who I will never forget. I am very fortunate to have been educated in the way that I was, because it's not as easy to get an education in countries like Africa. Although I loved playing the piano, I also began to play violin when I was around nine years old. About a year later, I tried out for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) and I made it! MYSO was a great experience, but I quit it after about two years because it just wasn’t for me. I remained in my school orchestra and attended other music-related events, such as recitals and our annual Solo & Ensemble festivals. I also began private lesson where I could focus more on playing as a soloist. Through orchestra I learned about teamwork, participation, and leadership, and through solo playing I realized the importance of individual pieces. In general, music also offered an escape for when I was having a bad day. Playing the piano could just make me feel relieved after a long, stressful day. I didn’t always have to be the one playing an instrument for music to make me happy. Even if one of my friends or family members started singing, I could feel myself starting to relax.
