Immigration is a very hot topic in the United States right now because many people believe that the immigration system is broken and needs fixing. On November 20th 2014 President Obama announced his executive action to fix our broken immigration system. The executive action will have two key components. The first is it would offer a legal reprieve to undocumented parents of United States citizens who have been in the country for at least five years. This would remove any threat that they have for deportation and could also allow them to get work permits. The second key component is it will expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that allows immigrants who are under the age of 30 who arrived in the United States as a …show more content…

Hernandez is an illegal immigrant who has been convicted three times while driving intoxicated and over a 30-year span. The judge ruled to deport him even though he served his time and joined alcohol anonymous. With Obamas new executive order this would fall under the first key component because Hernandez has been in the country for over five years and his threat for deportation would be removed. This executive order would make it possible for Hernandez to stay in the U.S with his family and not have the fear of deportation at any time for any crimes that he commits. In the reading written by Kasinitz it talks about the research done on 1.5 and second-generation immigrants. Kasinitz talks about how the immigrants have a huge impact on the labor market and how the second generation adapts to the American culture. The executive order is allowing these second generation immigrants who aren’t U.S born citizens to have work permits and contribute to the working class in America. This falls into the theory of second generation advantage because the natives are at some disadvantage by having the immigrants taking jobs but the immigrants are benefiting from this by having the U.S giving them work permits to provide for their families which is the best combination for
