Tyrone, Napolean and Iago's Power

Power is one of things that change an individual’s perspective on life and their attitude towards it. Nikki Grimes the author of Bronx Masquerade tells the story about 18 teenagers struggling through their senior year in high school. The English teacher decides to have Open Mike Friday where the student brings in poetry to share. In the beginning most of the teens don’t even know each other, but in the end, friendships are made and the teens get a new point of view in their life. Power also plays in the book Animal Farm written by George Orwell. Animal Farm is a story regarding two pigs Snowball and Napolean who want direct power over the farm when Old Major, a respected figure, passes away. Snowball identifies what is right for the farm but Napolean and his jealousy kicks him out of the farm which results in the farm heading towards the false path of communism and dictatorship. Power also has a role in the play Othello written by William Shakespeare. Iago portrays himself as very loyal and true friend to Othello while his other side is much more ruthless and cruel towards him. Iago wants power so he can over run Othello and make him look like a fool. Too much power or lack of power changes an individual positively and negatively as seen in the characters Tyrone, Napolean and Iago.

Tyrone has the power to look into his classmates’ life and analysis them thoroughly so that he can get along with them in the end and get to know them better, this changes him positively. Too much power changes Napoleon positively by, he can control the farm and the animals, it changes him negatively by, he has lost his identity and he treats the animals cruelly. Too much power changes Iago negatively by, he has lost his identity and in the end his plan fails and he is now powerless. These are some of the ways that too much power and lack of power changes an individual positively and negatively as seen in the books Bronx Masquerade, Animal Farm and the play Othello.
