The Lord has a plan for all of his Children, which he sets in motion years before their birth. Evidence of this is how he foreshadowed Jesus Christ’s life in the Old Testament, years before Jesus became flesh! This specific type of foreshadowing is called typology. Typology is a person or thing that is a type of Jesus, or someone who foreshadows Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Saint Thomas Aquinas was speaking about the typology in the Bible when he said “The New Testament is lies hidden in the Old and the Old Testament is unveiled in the New.” This explains the Bible perfectly as Jesus’ life is underlying in the Old Testament in the lives of people like Moses, and we are able to see these connections in the New Testament. Making these connections between the Old Testament and the New Testament is interesting and can be easily done. Moses was a type of Jesus in the Old Testament. Jesus and Moses both spent forty days in solitude. Moses spent his time fasting and praying, but Jesus spent his time resisting temptation and rebuking Satan. Moses was up on a mountain top, away from others, during his time of meditation. “Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and went up on the mountain. He was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.” (Exodus 24:18) While Moses spent forty days on a mountain, Jesus spent forty days in the hot desert without food or water. “Next Jesus was taken into the wild by the Spirit for the Test. The Devil was ready to give it. Jesus prepared for the Test by fasting forty days and forty nights. That left him, of course, in a state of extreme hunger,” (Matthew 4:1-3).
