Q.1 Describe three research issues raised by the research now known as the Tuskegee Ex-periment. Ans.: The first research issue raised was that the Tuskegee study subjects were unaware that they were participating in the study and they were not being treated, but they were just used as guinea pig. In addition, subjects were not given the choice of whether they want to participate in the study or not. The second research issue raised by research was that the study was performed one hundred percent African American people only. This shows government health care profes-sionals biased behaviour towards minority and violation of the public rights. Finally, the third research issue raised was that Syphilis was untreated among the African American subjects for 40 years, and no comprehensive report was published accept the study was reported in medical journals. It considered being a violation of the ethical principle of autonomy for her. The second ethical issue raised for this study was Henrietta Lacks cells used for research study for 62 years without her family consent. Her family became aware of the existence of the cells when they were granted for research. Ethically it represents violation of justice for Henrietta’s family. Finally, the third ethical issue raised in Henrietta’s story was the rights and privacy of the Lacks family were not formally addressed after researchers published the full genome sequence of a HeLa cell line in a public database, without consulting the family. While researchers’ actions were not illegal, the controversy resulting from this breach of privacy prompted long overdue
