Character traits - Each of the character in this play has a different spike to portray, Starting from Troy Maxson, he is a hard-working person. Troy is the family member and plays the dominant role in his friendship for over thirty-year with fellow sanitation worker. Troy is a tragic-hero who has excessive pride for him becoming the member of a family whose wages supplies its livelihood. Troy's years of hard-work lacks him in quality which depresses him. Troy often fails to provide the love and support to his family members. From the starting, Troy is persuaded as a character who is played a loved, admired person and also getting away with his secret affair. But eventually, Troy's death leaves many negative attributes as an inheritance …show more content…

Cory gets good grades and college recruiters are coming to see him play football. Cory is a respectful son, lovable nephew to his disabled Uncle Gabriel, and generally, a giving and enthusiastic person. An ambitious young man who has the talent and determination to realize his dreams. Cory comes faces through the challenges and confronts Troy and which leads him leaving the home. Cory comes home from the Marines (later)in the final scene of the play, attempting to defy Troy by refusing to go to his funeral, but Cory changes his mind after sharing memories of his father with Rose and …show more content…

Troy Maxson starts by telling off a story where he literally wrestled with Death and won. We get several speech throughout the play where he taunts Death, almost daring him to try and take him again. In the end, Death does take Troy, but what we're left is with the impression that Troy doesn't go down without a fight (Never gives up!) “Fences seems to view human mortality as both as a dark inevitability and our ultimate chance for peace. When the gates of heaven open for Troy at the end of the play, we're left with the impression that he's found rest in the afterlife.” taken from the story. Even Though the story had a tragic ending leaving Troy’s death, Troy finally gets to rest

    The theme of August Wilson’s play “Fences” is the coming of age in the life of a broken black man. Wilson wrote about the black experience in different decades and the struggle that many blacks faced, and that is seen in “Fences” because there are two different generations portrayed in Troy and Cory. Troy plays the part of the protagonist who has been disillusioned throughout his life by everyone he has been close to. He was forced to leave home at an early age because his father beat him so dramatically. Troy never learned how to treat people close to him and he never gave any one a chance to prove themselves because he was selfish. This makes Troy the antagonist in the story because he is not only hitting up against everyone in the play, but he is also hitting up against himself and ultimately making his life more complicated. The discrimination that Troy faced while playing baseball and the torment he endures as a child shape him into one of the most dynamic characters in literary history.The central conflict is the relationship between Troy and Cory. The two of them have conflicting views about Cory’s future and, as the play goes on, this rocky relationship crumbles because Troy will not let Cory play collegiate football. The relationship becomes even more destructive when Troy admits to his relationship with Alberta and he admits Gabriel to a mental institution by accident. The complication begins in Troy’s youth, when his father beat him unconscious. At that moment, Troy leaves home and begins a troubled life on his own, and gaining a self-destructive outlook on life. “Fences” has many instances that can be considered the climax, but the one point in the story where the highest point of tension occurs, insight is gained and a situation is resolved is when Rose tells Troy that Alberta died having his baby, Raynell.
