I have selected the Biome Rainforest. The Rainforest Biome is defined by the following conditions. Heavily wooded, large amounts of rainfall exceeding 100 inches of rain per year. Most of the world's rainforest is near the equator, however, some are in areas more north. Rainforest near the equator is hot with an average temperature near 85 degrees this type is called tropical rainforests. Rainforest in a cooler climate is called temperate. I will focus on tropical rainforests for this assignment because this was the site for the secret rebel alliance base in episode IV. Tikal rainforests are broken into two distinct areas. The first area is in the mountains of Guatemala. Although still very wet the mountains are slightly cooler, and the rain is more of a mist rather than a heavy down poor. Because of the cooler temps and slightly lower rainfall, the mountains are described as a more comfortable the locals call this the land of eternal spring. These “cloud forests” cover half the country. The lower areas of the rainforests in Tikal have a much heavier type of rainfall and are warmer. In the Guatemala rainforest, there is only one type of bear which is also known as the Spectacled Bear. It looks a lot like a black bear, but they don’t really eat meat. They go up high in the tree to find their favorite food, bromeliads, that have a honey like flavor. The Spectacle bear also loves to eat grasses and berries. The most well know animal that lives in the Guatemala rainforest is the Jaguar. The Mayans held this large cat as sacred and admired the cats survive skills. It is a heavily built cat with the strongest bite force of any large cat. They are yellow with black spots that are a perfect camouflage for the densely wooded forest natives called them ghosts because they could completely disappear into the forest. Currently, the Jaguar is critically endangered of going extinct due to over-hunting and loss of habitat. The jaguar is a unique animal it hides high up in the treetops getting ready to pounces on its food. They are not an aggressive animal they only attack a man when they feel threatened. There are also 300 different types of hummingbirds in Guatemala, the largest population in the world. Each hummingbird has developed a unique adaptation of beaks to allow them to eat different flowers.
