The hero in many stories is perfect and has no flaws, the tragic hero is very different. The tragic hero in many stories has flaws or things that hold them back. A tragic hero plays a huge role in many stories and makes big decisions. A tragic hero is usually the main character in the story. A tragic hero can make decisions that could make the outcome of the story better or worse. In The Pearl, Kino shows flaws and action that show that he is the tragic hero.

He is the tragic hero and the main character and makes big decisions. He faces many serious decisions in the book. Kino makes the decision for his family to leave and take the pearl with them. They know now their old life is over because now Kino has killed a man. He says "it is time for us to go" (Pearl64) and that is when they leave. This quote shows the Kino is the only one that made the decision, as the whole family just went and did not ask any questions. Kino in most of the important parts makes the decision about what the family is going to do. When Keno and the family are about to sell the pearl Kino says he's not going to sell it and try to get more money. The pearl buyer says "I'll give you 1,500 pesos”(Peral53) Kino response saying "no”(Peral53). This shows he is beginning to become greedy. Also, this shows again that he makes the big decision in the moment. A PDF on the Internet says a tragic hero shows many different flaws and one is “ he has to face very serious decisions that he has to make”.
