Because As a child Lee was a rebellious and unruly tomboy. This makes Lee like Scout. Scout is an unruly tomboy who acts and speaks like Harper Lee did as a child. Like Lee, Scout talks back to teachers saying, “My name’s really Jean Louise Bullfinch.” (“To Kill A Mockingbird”) story continues to match her life by following her past. Like, Harper Lee was born in a sleepy town in Alabama. Likewise, “To Kill A Mockingbird” is set in a slumbering Alabama town. Our last comparison comes in the time which she was maturing. “To Kill A Mockingbird” takes place in the 1930’s. This is also the time period in which Harper Lee was developing into a young woman. Harper lee's life could also be reflected in TKAM. Because she could also be reflected through Boo Radley. Becauses Harper lee said 'You know the character Boo Radley? At the end of the book, Scout and Boo met for the first and last time. This is symbolic, because she met boo for the first time. But it would be the last time she met boo. Harper lee introduces Dolphus Raymond in such a way that she makes him sipping from something. She also introduces that Dolphus is affiliated with and is always around blacks. So instantly the reader makes a connection where they think to themselves that because Dolphus Raymond is sipping from something and because he is affiliated and around blacks, than he must be a drunk because he's hanging around blacks. And blacks are usually drunks, criminals, in poverty and rapists. This is a direct example of stereotypical and prejudiced thoughts leading directly to racism. As demonstrated and shown through “To Kill A Mockingbird” And later in the book she says that Dolphus raymond was sipping coca-cola. Showing that stereotypical and prejudiced thoughts lead to racism. Which leads to racist and unfair judgement. Harper lee Shows another example of prejudice thoughts by introducing Boo Radley as a bad out of control man and throughout Maycomb, Boo Radley is known as a “monster” for casually stabbing his father one day with a pair scissors while he was cutting up paper for his scrapbook. Although this is a terrible thing to do, no one really knows if there was a motive behind his actions and the people of Maycomb are not giving Boo a chance to show how kind he really is.
