To Kill A Mockingbird Is Atticus Courageous

Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, I found many characters courageous and admirable. Scout, because she's such a smart and fearless little girl, Jem, because he’s always there to protect Scout and is there to help his father with anything he might need. I also think that Boo was a courageous character because he was willing to do anything he might ever need to do to help the children. The one character that stuck out to me the most was Atticus. I thought he was incredibly courageous and a great father to his children. Many times throughout the story he proved to us that he isn't afraid of losing or being wrong, which I admire a lot. Atticus is the only one who would defend Tom Robinson, even though he was African American. He knew from the minute he was appointed the trial that he was going to lose it but that didn't stop him from trying his hardest to win. Mrs. Dubose even said “Atticus is a nigger lover” (pg. 100), so he was being judged by everyone in the town. Atticus did everything in his power to win that trial, he made points that no one else would have ever thought about. He knew that the whole town would be cruel to him and his family, but he took the case anyways because it's the job he was appointed. He knew he was going to lose the trial but he took it anyways, doing the best he could. …show more content…

Atticus knew that Mr. Ewell beats his children and that everything they are trying to blame on Tom Robinson, was actually Mr. Ewell. He told Jem, “The man had to have some kind of comeback, he always does. So if spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that's something I'll gladly take.” (241). He's putting faith back into his children telling them that theres no reason to be scared of Mr.
