In the beginning of the interview I asked Rita about her past experiences and her qualifications that describes her as a manager. She told me that she did not had any past experience in this field but she did managerial studies in the field of accounting. This gives me an idea that from she got her management skills. Because this was her first job, she did many mistakes in the starting.
She exchanged many stories of her past experiences where she made mistakes at her work place. She told me that the day she started her job was the day she thought that she is not a good selection as a manager. Actually, she misunderstood the specification of the work she had been provided. Everyone faces problems at their work place and it is more common to face issues if it is your first job. The problems issues that Rita faced at her work place are the common issues faced by every manager. The first problem she faced was the failure to set clear goals and expectations of the company. She explained me that the best thing to get rid of this issue is set the goal in the mind of team. If you work for a particular goal in team then it is going to be easy to finish the task and fulfill the expectations easily.
Time management is really tough for new managers. Now, in addition to managing your own tasks, you have to manage an entire team, putting out fires and dealing with their problems. Make it clear to employees that there are certain times that are only for you. Rita said that she still finds it very difficult to manage time with a staff of 15 employees. According to her, the best way to manage time is to give every employee a task with a particular fixed time.
The expectation of performance makes a pressure in the mind of the manager. Patience is the best way to deal with this kind of pressure as you won’t get amazing results right away.
