Thor: Ragnarok (2017) The movie I chose is Thor: Ragnarok; I am a big marvel fan and especially a huge fan of Thor. I’ve been familiar with Thor since 2011; I have watched all the marvel films to date. It actually wasn’t until I took this class to learn that Thor is part of Norse mythology. Once we started reading the Norse mythology chapter, everything started to sink in and fall into place. When I started watching the films, I knew that they were part of mythology; I just didn’t know what certain type of mythology. I didn’t really prepare for this film, I was just excited it came out and couldn’t wait to see it. Ragnarok means the final destruction of the world in the conflict between the Aesir and the powers of Hel led by Loki. In the end of the movie you can see just how much destruction is left on Asgard. The way the movie portrays it is different. The definition says led by Loki, but in the movie Loki is who summons Ragnarok to save the others and kill Hera. Hera is the sister of Thor and Loki, she is also known as the goddess of death. The movies of Thor are almost completely different than the actual myths. One example going back to the first movie, Thor sneaks away to battle the smite giants. Against the wishes of Odin, but in the myths that is what he does. When she would transform the horns on her head you can tell she was evil. Also the way she goes into Asgard and just starts taking control and killing people. It just shows true power, and very strong. She wore a dark green costume with a lot of black in it. I still don’t know why it was green, because for me green represents nature, earth, and peacefulness.
