How People Encounter Conflict I believe conflict is normally a negative thing for people because we don't know how to handle it correctly.. Whether the conflict be you versus another person, you versus yourself, or you versus society conflict is a testing factors that comes inevitably. However when you face conflict how do you react? Having a negative influence or having a positive influence is determined a lot on the way you deal with conflict. Conflict is a good thing if you hit it head first or leave it alone, but it can become a negative influence on you and others if you have a negative influence towards conflicts. We remind ourselves about our failures and daily fight against ourselves. Man versus himself shows up in Okonkwo when he thinks of everything he doesn't like about his dad and his anger comes out. This has a negative effect on not only Okonkwo who has terrible anger issues, but also on his family. He chokes Nwoye when he lets his anger get the best of him destroying their relationship. This Man VS Self comes out when people commit suicide. They have to think about suicide before actually doing it. The suicidal person is having conflict with itself. This has a negative effect on not only the person who commits suicide but the people that love this person. The person loses their live that was ahead of them, and losses the chance to show everyone that they are better. The family and friend lose their loved one which it really depressing already and when you add suicide to it that's worse. Man Vs Society comes into play with all kinds of things. In Things Fall Apart the white men have to come into another society and the natives have to deal with it. This has a negative effect on the natives customs and really old fashioned natives by stripping them of their culture. It has a positive effect on the ewfele of the “nobodys” of the africans by letting them be apart of something meaning full. The one lady that had four sets of twins and she had to let them die was lead to the church and if she has twins now she can keep them instead of them
