The philosophical theory of Soft Determinism is that soft determinist does believe in Determinism with the compatibility of freedom and responsibility. Soft Determinism is also called, “Self-Determinism,” and also called, “Compatibilism.” Soft Determinist accepts hard determinist’s philosophical theory of universal causation; series of causal events being caused, but differentiates between internal and external causes, which effects beliefs of moral responsibility and limit Free Will. The internal causes of actions are caused of inner wishes and desires, which is known as freewill. As for external causes of actions are forced because of external influences, which is not freewill. Although our natures are determined by factors that are described in family, environment, and society, there are examples, that we have free will because we have the freedom of spontaneity. The choices we decide by our nature and circumstances; the options we take is decided by freewill. The state of confusion of the incompatibility extract the confusion of what is meant to be free. According to Augustine, freedom is referred to being able to what one chooses to do. Here freedom means the freedom to act, but when the act is caused by external forces that isn’t free, but when it’s caused by choice, it is free. Soft determinists have argued that actions are free, if the person who performs it, are wish to do so and could, if it is wished. The strengths that soft determinism have is that it provides basis for universal and enforceable laws; that strengths by reasons. The causes within our choices are internal by agent that flows from our desires and aren’t being determined by any other factors, which gives us certain degree of responsibility. The other strength is that soft determinism gives us the moral right to punish people, that affects us to enable of protection of society and justice. For example, soft determinism argues that a man who commits murder has to be punished, by putting him in prison. By putting him society will be protected. Soft determinism also argues for humanity. Many soft determinists may have argued to the point that without human will and responsibility, we are denied of humanity.
