Ethical Relativism and Objectivism make up a very big part of our lives. These two theories affect our everyday decision making and they help us identify whether something is right or wrong. Ethical relativism states that what is right and wrong is determined by people whom are influenced by their beliefs, culture, time period, and personal views. This first theory is very personal and could go either way. Ethical objectivism on the other hand is more broad. This theory is more general and relies more on facts and what’s in front of you. There are a lot of small categories within Ethical Relativism, but the two most important ones that I believe make up Ethical Relativism itself are cultural relativism and ethical subjectivism. We live by these beliefs and it is truly how we think. It depends on our culture and the lifestyle we were raised in that influences us into believing what we believe in. everyone has different beliefs and we don’t all agree one thing. Even killing, so many people would think this is wrong to do yet we see so many other people kill just because. Ethical relativism has more categories in which more people fall into rather than ethical objectivism. I believe more people would find themselves somewhere within this category, especially nowadays when so many people are for or against so many different things. For example gay marriage, abortion, death sentence, etc… “…. morality is made by and for human beings. Before we were around, nothing was right and wrong.” (Shafer – Landau 293) meaning, we are the ones who decide whether something is right or wrong, we influence each other and we will keep influencing the generations to come to think the same. I think there are some things that fall into ethical objectivism but not as many as ethical relativism. Although facts are based on science, it doesn’t mean there aren’t other things that we believe in which we don’t have evidence for. We don’t always base our opinions and choices on science, we always seem to go with our instincts and influences around
