When you are focusing on the structural perspective of something you are mainly examining the role they play in society and how they are looked at by society. In this instance, childhood and children are the trending topic but their image has changed over time. Childhood went from being a time that for the most part was used to prepare for adulthood to being a stage in life that is most important. Today in society children have a say so in what goes on and their lives affect the world daily. The structural perspective of childhood refers to the individual role children play in society. The developmental stages mainly focuses on how the child matures with their literacy and language, cognitive, motor, emotional, sensory, and social skills. These perspectives view essentially how the child will test in each skill but does not view the outcome of the combination of the perspectives together. Without the structural perspective we focus only on the children itself and sometimes the individuals that may come in direct contact daily with the child. However, when including the structural perspective we are starting to notice how their developmental skills portray in the real world and how they are looked at. We are able to see what the child can handle physically, mentally, socially, or emotionally. For example, many children were affected by Hurricane Katrina and the effect it had on society. Based on the child’s developmental skills it will show how big of an affect it had on the child. If the child could mentally and emotionally handle the fear of losing family members and not knowing if they were going to survive. To physically be able to go without food or having to travel long distances at a time to get things their family needed. In this case many children played huge parts in contributions to their family. One of society’s primary goals is to keep America safe and improve on presenting a positive future. Our children of today is our future so everything we do is to prepare the world for them and vice versa. Children play a huge role in how society works daily. For example, the killing of the unarmed children gave much of society a different outlook on America. It made America feel our innocence is not safe and there is not anyone fighting to change that. This event led to children, teenagers, and adults working together to fight for change. They worked together to ask for better days. This event gave adults as well as children a voice to speak and be heard. Another example, is poverty in America. Poverty is very common in America and it leads to children having low birth rates, being obese, and much more. Due to these malnutrition acts society has come up with many programs to make sure children are getting the correct nutrition needed to survive. They are confirming children are eating on days where there are not any school or are able to have healthy meals throughout the week. They are trying to teach children and their parents about nutrition and keep them educated on what is available for them. Society plays close attention to the children of America and make it a priority to keep them safe. When something seems wrong or if something is affecting their well-being;
