“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”(Mahatma Gandhi). When you have the will to do something or you feel strong enough to accomplish something you do not need physical strength. An example of this is when Gandhi had his biggest protest in 1930. He led over thousands of Indians on an over 200 mile march to a town on the coast. The reason they did this is to stand up to the British which had a monopoly on salt. 60,000 people were arrested including Gandhi which shows even though they weren’t strong enough to stand against the law they still achieved their goal of protesting the salt monopoly. Chris also has similar quote to Gandhi’s and that quote is “It’s not important, in life to be strong…. but to feel strong”(Chris McCandless). Some more similarities between Chris and Gandhi are the fact that they didn’t respect authority especially if authority got in the way of what they wanted. Like when Chris went to the “no trespassing” area in the desert with his Datsun. Gandhi on the other hand burned passport cards of all the people that followed him in England and almost got beaten to death because of what he had done. For example Gandhi actually achieved something that benefited others because through all the work he did protesting and doing other illegal activities opposing the law India finally became independent in 1947. On the other hand Chris didn’t really achieve anything that benefited others. He traveled to a lot of places and helped a few people out but he mostly just went to Alaska and ended up dying because he was ignorant and ill prepared. Another big difference is Gandhi starved himself on purpose for a greater cause but Chris starved due to not having enough food and not being able to hunt
