Did you know that the Irish Civil War started in 1922 and ended in 1923? Only 800 casualties were recorded by the Irish army. The sniper is a Republican, he is fighting in the Irish Civil War, it's night and he like to cigarette on fire and his enemy sees him, they shoot each other and the sniper pretended to get shot and then shot his enemy. When the sniper turned the body that he shot around, he found out it was his brother. The Sniper by Liam o'Flaherty shows the theme of how war is dangerous and not worth it. In the sniper, the theme emerges when guns are firing and people are at war. For example, on page one, a Republican sniper hears guns firing in the distance. Murder is a reprobate action that is an inevitable part of war. It forces humans into immoral acts, which can manifest in the forms such as shooting or close combat. The life of a soldier is ultimately decided from the killer, whether or not he follows through with his actions. In the short stories The Sniper by Liam O'Flaherty and Just Lather, That's All by Hernando Téllez, the killer must decide the fate of their victims under circumstantial constraints. The two story explore the difference between killing at a close proximity compared to killing at a distance, and how they affect the killer's final decision.
Liam O’Flaherty’s realistic fiction story, “The Sniper,” takes place in Dublin, Ireland, where there is a civil war waging between Republicans and Free Staters. The Republican sniper, who is the main character in the story, is fighting in the civil war for the Republican organization. There are numerous amounts of people who are attempting to assassinate the sniper because of his organization, and his enemies are located all around him waiting patiently until they gain their chance. The Republican sniper, however, leaps before he looks most times, thus leading to severe consequences throughout the story. By using description and suspense, O’Flaherty creates the lesson that actions, without thought, will lead to consequences.

“The Trusty” is a work of fiction, written by Ron Rash, that tells the story of a man and a woman who try to escape their lives. In this short story, Sinkler is depicted as a scandalous but also as a distressed character. Many painted events lead to the illustration of a peculiar setting in which Sinkler is experiencing some abnormal instances. Sinkler is not dead, and his characterization has lead the audience to believe his flawed mental state is the reason why.

“In your opinion, can this book be justifiably taught at your grade level, or not?” In fact, yes. I feel that most of the students in my grade can handle the content, but some of them will think of it as an inappropriate novel. All grades above 8th should be mature enough to read this book. The Pigman is an exciting novel by the author Paul Zindel. This novel always left me in suspense. The two main characters in the novel, John and Lorraine, were hilarious, kind, sneaky and generous. Some parents may think this book would be not appropriate for their kids. There are a couple of themes that would indicate why theses parents would not like The Pigman. Themes such as Drugs, Alcohol, Mortality, and Guilt are described in detail throughout
Cunning over Strength or Strength over Cunning? Scholars have been going back and forth about this for years. One Scholar, named David Leeming, has voiced his own opinion, he said, “Finally, Homer’s listeners might well have been particularly fascinated by another homecoming story-this one about a somewhat unusual hero, known as much for his brain as for his brawn.” He does not exactly say cunning over strength, but what he is saying that Odysseus is being noticed for his brain as much as he was for his strength. In the Odyssey, cunning over strength is found throughout the book because it is a theme of the book. In the book, we see Odysseus and women use their wits over strength to take down their enemies and/or get out of difficult spots. Homer's point of view in this book is to show the reader's the true power of cunning over strength through Odysseus mainly, but as well as women.
In "Battle Royal" By Ralph Ellison, the themes in this story are very complex. There are a couple themes that are very prominent in the story. Theme is an "exploration of an idea- an idea in movement that persists through out the story" (Roberts and Zweig, 67). In an essay, the theme is a short composition developing an interpretation or advancing and argument.Themes are also usually the main point or idea that a writer of an essay asserts and illustrates. Themes tend to give life to fictional stories and novels. In a play, the theme is depicted by the dramatic trivial. Mystery and suspense stories develop from the idea that problems have solutions, although the solutions at first may seem remote or impossible. The writers do not always state their theme or idea in words. It is with their power with words and sentence structure that allows the author to write a story that shows the "characters confronting difficult and sometimes agonizing moral choices" (Roberts and Zweig, 68). You extract the theme from the characters, action, and the setting that make up the story.
In “The Sniper” the conflict is man vs man, which means main character is tasked with killing his enemy, but it proves to be quite a challenge. Even though there were many challenges the sniper followed through with his job and persevered even after he was shot in the arm. Wanting to kill his enemy, stay alive, and be one step closer to ending the war was his main goals. Being brave, he took off his hat, placed it on his gun, and raised it above the edge of the roof. Instantly the enemy shot at it and the sniper, pretending to be dead, waited until the enemy got up for him to shoot him. He did some quick thinking and, with determination, handled the conflict quite well.
In this poem, the speaker uses contrast as a literary device to demonstrate the theme that america’s issue is the lack of gun policies. For instance, throughout the poem the speaker depicts what object would best represent many countries:
