When I was younger, I really wouldn’t take risks. When I did take the risks, they would help me or others. For example, I asked questions about test and homework that people wouldn’t have. By asking these questions, it would help me become a bigger risk taker. Risk taking can turn into a horrible situation, but taking risk can save lives and help people who were to afraid. The characters, Malcolm and the IRA sniper show that they’re risk takers because they are not afraid.
In the story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, the IRA sniper took a risk in his fights during the war. The IRA sniper is in war for independence from the United Kingdom. One example on how the IRA sniper is a risk taker is he took a shot at a gunner and lady because the lady was announcing his position. In the story, it says “She began to talk to the man in the turret of the car. She was pointing to the roof where the sniper lay. One example on how Malcolm is a risk taker is that he get mad at his team. A quote from the novel “you’re balling for your team, not theirs get your head out of your ass” (Volponi 44). According to the quote, Malcolm gets mad at his team, which means he is taking a risk by putting down his player. The players could leave the team. Another example on how Malcolm is a risk taker is that he is mean to his players. A quote that proves this is “If I wanted to make it happen, you’d never touch the rock. You’re lucky my games about putting points on the board or I’d be living inside your jersey” (Volponi 51). According to this quote, Malcolm is talking to one of his players and he is saying that the only thing that he is good at is scoring points and nothing else.
