Gender discrimination is one of the underlying factors in the sex-segregated labour market in Indonesia. Many male workers are accused of sexual harassment. Additionally, some companies even deny access to their finances. They lack the protection of the domestic workers.
The informal economy has many policies they want to adapt. They want to end the globalized cheap-labour manufacturing sectors. They want to create opportunities for employment for females workers in more urban areas.Indonesia has a plan to merge the public and private sectors to do this. They also want to improve the conditions of work and pay. International Labour Organizations are working along with Indonesia to promote the equal opportunity.
Traditional patriarchal norms have relegated women to secondary status within the household and workplace. Women are commonly married young, quickly become mothers, and are then burdened by stringent domestic and financial responsibilities.
