The theme that is most important and that shows up very often in the novel "The Pigman," is friendship. This book is from the point of view of two friends telling their story of friendship with each other, some kids from their school, and Mr. Pignati. They go through a lot whether it be hard times, sad times, or aggravating times, Lorraine, John, and the Pigman stayed friends throughout the book no matter how idiotic they were. Friendship is the thing that brought all of these people together in the first place when they prank called Mr. Pignati, and this resulted in a friendship that John and Lorraine had made with the lonely yet jolly Pigman. Pignati at the hospital, he gave them the keys to his house because they were friends and he though he would be able to trust them in his house, with his food and everything like that. "Lorraine fumbled in her pocket, "We brought you the keys," she said, holding them out to him. "You keep them," he said. "Maybe you'll want to watch some television or have some more chocolate ants""(115). But of course like any other irresponsible teenager, John decided that they needed to take advantage of this great opportunity that they had. He decided to throw a "small party" and invite a "few people" but that is not at all how it went. About forty people had shown up to Johns so called "small party" and they ended up completely trashing Mr. Pignati's house and his possessions. From breaking his glass pigs to tearing his deceased wife's clothing. Mr. Pignati of course found out and just like anyone else he was very upset with, disappointed in, and confused by the actions of the two children. Once it was all said and done though, before the death of Mr. Pignati, he did forgive them because of their friendship. That was just something he could never let go. He got over the betrayal he felt because he knew that friendship was a strong thing, and they would have needed a very strong friendship for Mr. Pignati to forgive the kids for what they did and he
