The Order of the Phoenix starts off with Harry at the Johnson’s house for the summer, and he is waiting to hear news about Tom. He wants to know where he is, and what he is doing. Professor Lewis, however, doesn’t seem to think Harry needs to know what is going on. After listening to the news, and deciding that no news about Tom is good news, he goes for a walk. While he was walking home with his cousin, Ryan, two giants came from nowhere and attacked them. The giants almost critically hurt Ryan. To fight them off, Harry uses magic, even though using magic outside of school might cause him to get expelled. In fact, he almost got expelled right away, but there would be a hearing at the Ministry for him instead. When Harry finally went to headquarters for The Order, his hearing would be in three weeks. He was nervous about it, but Mrs. Seward kept him busy. They had to clean out the headquarters as it was abandoned for almost 15 years. Harry was almost as nervous as he had ever been when the day of his hearing arrived. Thankfully, the Ministry found him not guilty, and he could return to school. …show more content…
Harry recognized her from his hearing. She told them she was interfering with the school. When their first Defense Against the Dark Art’s lesson came, she informed them they would no longer be using their wands in this class. Harry ended up getting into a heated argument with her about it, and he got a week of detention. At his detention, Professor Seward told him to write “I must not tell lies” on a piece of paper, with a special pen. The pen, however, used his blood as its ink, and each time he wrote it, it cut deeper and deeper into his arm. This was painful for Harry, but he said nothing to Professor
Ethel Waters overcame a very tough childhood to become one of the most well known African American entertainers of her time. Her story, The Eye on the Sparrow, goes into great detail about her life and how she evolved from taking care of addicts to becoming the star of her own show. Ethel was born by her mother being raped at a young age. Her father, John Waters, was a pianist who played no role in Ethel’s life. She was raised in poverty and it was rare for her to live in the same place for over a year. Ethel never fit in with the rest of the crowd; she was a big girl, about five nine when she was a teenager, and was exposed to mature things early in her life. This is what helped shape Ethel to be the strong, independent woman she is.
Ray Bradbury’s novel elucidates how the society in the books has been burnt to ashes just like the mythical phoenix, leading to a possibility of regeneration of a new civilization through the existence of books Montag and others have. He used numerous literary devices to represent this statement. For instance, the use of sound, symbols, and imagery have been used throughout Fahrenheit 451.
n Chapter 3, “Entering Into the Serpent”, Anzaldua discuss about serpents and snakes and she was told they were dangerous growing up. Then, she goes in with a history of the goddesses of Mexican and Chicano cultures. According to Anzaluda, many of the Indian groups had goddesses that were respected feminine, the wild, the beast within women. She explains that most of the tribal leaders were females but, then the Aztec rulers changed things, though, by destroying documents, rewriting mythology, creating wars and defeat. The Aztecs changes the view of the strong female goddess and made them evil and subduing men. This chapter make realize ho man became the dominant gender when it comes to household or ruling a country. They are intimidate by
In Harry potter and the philosopher's stone she is shown as an unfriendly know-it-all, as she is constantly correcting people and seemingly arrogantly answering questions in class. Whilst also keeping to herself. For these reasons, no one really cared to know her. Her friendship with Harry and Ron only came about after the pair rescued her from a troll. When they got in trouble, she readily took the blame. Through this, the pair were enabled to see past her snobby know it all behaviour.
Harry’s frequently experienced injustice is witnessed since the very beginning of the novel. His alienation from both the wizarding world and muggle (non magical) world cause Harry to long for the acceptance of his truthful story. Since Voldemort’s return occurred at the end of Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts, his summer at Number 4 Privet Drive has been far from enjoyable (Chappell). If anything, it caused Harry anxiety, frustration, and anticipation of the horrible events to come (Chappell). Harry’s alienation first stems from the Ministry of Magic. When two dementors (magical hooded figures who guard the wizard prison, Azkaban) wandered into Harry’s neighborhood, he used magic to defend himself and his cousin, Dudley (Rowling 17). Because of this, the Ministry of Magic accused Harry of breaking the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery (Rowling 27). They made sure to enforce the “illegality” of Harry’s actions when they threatened to confiscate and destroy his wand (Rowling 62, 27). Harry, who had done nothing except defend himself in a life-threatening situation, felt alienated when the Minister of Magic himself would not believe his
The setting of the book takes place in Gloucester, Massachusetts. And in the grand banks of the atlantic ocean and on the boat of the Andrea Gail. I put a picture of the town of Gloucester and their harbor which represents their home and their last time on land before the crew died. The Andrea Gail was the only boat that got caught in one of the roughest storms in history and was not found until years later. The map of the three grand banks shows the spots where the Sword fishermen would go to catch fish and spend their time out at sea.The Crow’s Nest bar is the second home of the crew and would be forever empty without the presence of the crew on the Andrea Gail even when the bar is full it’s still empty.
Junior, Arnold’s nickname in the novel, must learn to deal with the death of Oscar (his beloved dog), his sister, his dad’s best friend (who was another father figure to him), and his grandmother. Out of all these deaths, the one that impacted him most was his grandmother’s; she was the person he could confess anything to without feeling incompetent about his feelings. She also taught him one of life’s most important lessons – tolerance. Grandmother Spirit’s last words were “Forgive him,” referring to the drunk driver that hit her (Alexie 157). Junior is absolutely awed by this stating, “Wow. My grandmother’s last act on earth was a call for forgiveness, love, and tolerance” (Alexie 157). Harry must deal with death in a different way than Junior. To explain, his parents died protecting him when he was a baby from the evil antagonist known as Voldemort. Harry has been plagued by this his whole childhood, because he is famously known as The Boy Who Lived. This has only intensified in this novel as Harry learns of his godfather, Sirius Black, who was falsely accused of handing Harry’s parents over to Voldemort; he was punished by being sent to the wizard prison called Azkaban, hence the title of the book. Throughout the novel, however, Harry learns that Sirius was a loyal friend to his parents and realizes that Sirius is the only person closest to family he has left. It turns out Harry saves Sirius’ life by finally utilizing the
Just to quickly run through the two previous books; Harry Potter is a wizard, who’s parents were killed by the worst dark wizard ever known. The reason why Harry Potter is still around, is because Lord Voldemort failed to kill Harry. His spell hit Harry, but then backfired on Voldemort taking all of his powers with him. Harry is so famous for two things. Withstanding the powers of Lord Voldemort, and, taking him back in to the underworld in hiding. In the first book, Harry receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He’s eventually allowed to go, and spends the next six months there learning magic, getting into trouble, and trying to solve mysteries of his past, and the school. In the second book, Harry goes back to his second year at Hogwarts, and gets into more trouble, figures out many astonishing mysteries and learns loads more magic. His best friends in the two books consist of Ron and Hermione (two of his fellow wizard students) and Hagrid the gamekeeper who was expelled from Hogwarts but allowed a job as the gamekeeper.

Harry Potter starts off slow, but gets very interesting near the end. In the beginning, you meet the Dursleys, Harry’s aunt, uncle, and their son Dudley. Then you learn that Harry’s parents were witches, and that they were destroyed by a evil wizard. A good witch, Albus Dumbeldoor, sends Harry to the Dursleys, because they’re his only remaining family. The Dursleys however, hated Harry and his family, so Harry was mistreated for years. He was forced to live in a cuborrod under the stairs. He had to watch as the fat, stuck up Dudley got whatever he wanted, and then usually broke whatever it was he got. Then one day Harry got a letter.
As weeks pass, Harry sticks inside Louis’ mind, and the spaces of his breathing, and in the chambers of his heart, and in the whines of his breath. It was shocking, to say the least, because Louis is use to having little crushes that come and go as more exciting things learn...
Eventually, Uncle Vernon’s plot to conceal Harry’s true identity is discovered, and Harry finds allies in the magical world of Hogwart’s School. More so, Harry suddenly finds himself transported to fantasy world of Hogwart’s School, which is an educational institution (a private school) teaches young people how to become wizards. Ironically, Harry arrives at Hogwart’s School (on a mysterious train), and he is surprised that he is already a famous celebrity amongst his peers. More so, Voldemort’s attempt to kill Harry (after had killed his parents) makes him something of a
