Everybody knows Al Capone was a famous gangster, but how many actually know his full story. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1899 to two poor immigrant parents. He quit school in only the sixth grade and soon after joined a gang, whose leader was Johnny Torrio. While working at a bar, he made a remark at a woman that got him slashed across the face. Because of this event, Capone received his nickname, “Scarface”. While Capone was in the gang, the Prohibition Amendment was enacted. The enactment resulted in the out pour or rackets. Torrio saw these rackets as a change to take control. With Al Capone as his right-hand man, he joined forces with Big Jim Colosimo and assumed full leadership of the gang. Capone convinced many speakeasy operators to buy illegal alcohol from Torrio. In this way, Torrio became very successful.
