What’s the significance of the Lottery? The lottery is a method to raise funds by selling million of tickets, and giving the prize to the holder who had the random numbers, in other words is a raffle. The lottery started earlier than the 70’s. However, a King from England in the sixteen century invented the lottery to grant finance to a town in Virginia. Winning the lottery is not simple; although, I may enclose an attempt to win the lotto for the reason that I’m an optimism woman. If I ever be the victor of the lotto I’ll lend a hand to my family, and the world.
First, I’ll finish my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical in Science, and finish my studies as a Forensic Pathologist. Then, I’ll pay all my university debts, and loans. After, I’ll buy a residence, with my sports car, and a swimming pool. Notify my mom that she doesn’t need to work anymore, because she has done everything for me, and worked a lot; therefore, I can have everything to stay healthy, an excellent nutrition, and everything that I need. Purchase a home for my mom, and finish paying her car and all her debts if she has any. I want my mom to live just like a queen because she deserves it.

My family lives in old houses, which the houses are not too strong to survive a natural disaster, it may still stay in shape but not safe to still live there. Get a two door refrigerator, and have it filled of food, to have a good nutrition, and not have food shortage. Typically, when someone thinks of a lottery they think of something positive and exciting but contrary to this idea in Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”, the connotation has an entirely different meaning. As the story begins, readers lean towards the belief that the town in which Jackson depicts is filled with happiness and joy. “The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green” (Jackson 247) We soon realize that this notion is far from the truth. In conclusion, the use of symbolism, irony and setting in the Lottery is very evident, the author indirectly implicates the true darkness within the human heart. The Lottery remains relevant in society today because the overall vagueness of the city allows this story to be true to all people around the world. The short story shows us that humans are evil enough to follow traditions blindly, even if they cause pain and death in loved ones we know. Jackson also centers a lot of symbols and irony on religion and how they affect our culture and decisions. In this the reader can learn that sometimes it’s better for a person to follow his moral compass, and not just blindly follow his evil heart, and the evilness of others.

Every year on June 27th the townspeople congregate in a giant mass in the middle of town, where the 'lottery'; takes place. This lottery is a ceremony in which each family throughout the town is represented by a tiny white piece of paper. The family representatives, who are the heads of the household, take turns drawing from a box that contains these three hundred pieces of papers. On one of the pieces of paper there is located a black dot, marked the previous night by Mr. Summers. This black dot indicates the 'winner'; of the lottery.
