Censorship is not an uncommon occurrence within today’s society. You may be wondering, what is censorship? Censorship is the suppression or prohibition of any parts of information or media that are considered obscene, politically incorrect, or a threat to security. Whether you’re aware of it or not, you’ve probably experienced censorship at some points in your life. For instance, if you’ve ever watched an R rated movie on television, and then watched it on DVD, you might think to yourself, “I didn’t remember that happening!” That’s probably because in the TV version, it didn’t. Along with “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and History topics, scientific topics are being removed from school. Topics such as the age of the Earth, evolution, and climate change have all been removed. This is likely due to the fact that all of these subjects are widely disagreed upon today in our society Many religious groups do not believe in evolution or the Big Bang, despite the fact that both topics have plenty of scientific evidence to back them up. These groups do not not believe in these topics because of the Genesis story in the christian bible, where it says that god created all the creatures on Earth as they were meant to be, including humans. This is the same reason behind them disliking the age of the earth topic, because according to Genesis as well, the earth is supposed to be a lot younger than it actually is. By removing these topics from the curriculum, both science and history alike, they are making it so that a majority of students never learn about it. Teachers usually tend to teach what’s on the curriculum, so if this isn’t on the curriculum, teachers probably won’t cover it.
