What Does The Clock Symbolism In The Great Gatsby

A man smiles at someone with extreme prejudices towards them. His suit is all so fancy and surrounded with people drinking his liquor, but in his eyes is full of hope while looking out into the ocean of the past. The Great Gatsby is about a man ,named Gatsby, that tries to get a married girl ,named Daisy, to love him again. They dated before but war broke the magic between the two.. Consequently, his actions in the book leads to the final scene of Gatsby dying and never having Daisey to love him again. The book, The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald, uses symbolism throughout the book to characterize the past as fault in human decision making and chasing the past will result to death by using time bound objects like a clock, a flower , and The static relationship was Gatsby and Daisy relationship, but will not come back because of the falling clock that displayed shattered time. Gatsby had an undying love for Daisy. Daisy soon married off after the government sent Gatsby to World War 1. Gatsby is still in love with Daisy and tries everything to catch her attention, so they can be together again. When Gatsby and Daisy meets once again for the first time, a clock falls after Gatsby pressures it”...whereupon he turned and caught it with trembling fingers and set it back in place”(Fitzgerald 86). This argues that Gatsby is trying to emulate the past by resetting the clock to where it had been. The clock represents time and as time moves, Gatsby tries to put it back where it was before. This suggests that Gatsby needed haste to get Daisy back to that special relationship they had in the past. Daisy never talked to Gatsby or ever met him again after the war. Soon married and loved life without him, Gatsby still tries to seek her attention and tries to rekindle a spark that they once had. Nick, Daisy, and Gatsby face 's expressions entail the status broken relationship as Gatsby caught the clock when it was about to shattering on the Gatsby is a wealthy man who dreams of the past. Gatsby tried so hard to have Daisy love him again, he does it by gains wealth illegally, by throwing big parties ,and even bought a house across a lake from her’s. Gatsby was “...boats against the current,”(180 Fitzgerald) fighting the present and trying to get into the past. The boat represents Gatsby as he tries to reach the land of his dreams; Land is the relationship of Gatsby and Daisy five years ago. The waves then pushes Gatsby back and doesn’t allow Gatsby to set anchor to his dream. The waves are the present; Like Daisy gets married ,or Gatsby isn 't being old money rich ,or Daisy’s memory with Tom is what makes these waves so hard to pass to reach land and because of it, it kills Gatsby. When Gatsby and Daisy first met, they wanted each other. However Daisy moved on after Gatsby went to war, Gatsby then chases for Daisy heart. The green light off Daisy’s shore is like the continent to explore in the late 15 century. Nick realizes the enchanted view of Gatsby’s light” I become aware of the old island have that flowered once for Dutch sailors’ eyes…. Enchanted moment man must have held his breath in the presence of this continent.”(180 Fitzgerald) The image of a boat in the ocean facing the new world represent the enchanted object of humans. Humans are enchanted by meaningful objects like Gatsby is
