Yeasmin 1 Mohima Yeasmin Dr. Shoff ENC1101 Sec.78 April 29, 2014 The Country of Bangladesh Bangladesh is a small country in line with the title of the 8th most populated country in the world with a population of about 163 million people. Bangladesh is just about the size of the sate Iowa, and is to the right of India, along the Indian Ocean. I can still remember bits and pieces of my first trip to Bangladesh back in 2004. I was only about 6 years old when I first went, and it was just an entire new world that I was trying to comprehend. It really quite the trip to remember. I also got the amazing opportunity to go back and visit with my whole family a second time back in 2012. Bangladesh was formerly known as East Pakistan, and only won the official right to be called Bangladesh in 1971. Sheikh Mujib was the Bangladesh leader at the time, and was arrested and taken to West Pakistan due to his intense movements for freedom in Bangladesh. India helped Bangladesh gain their freedom by offering military assistance. About 10 million Bangladeshis fled to India to seek refuge during the war. Soon after the war ended Sheikh Mujib returned home into Bangladesh, and became the prime minister. Soon after a Bangladesh anthem and flag was also put into place and patriotism was in every creak and corner of the country. Yeasmin 2 Later in 1975, Sheikh Mujib became the president of Bangladesh. By then the political status in Bangladesh was very, very bad. In 1977, the religion of Islam was officially adopted into the Bangladeshi constitution. The Bangladesh economy has since improved greatly. The infant mortality rate has dropped generously, and the life expectancy rate of a typical person has increased by 10 years. To sum it all up, Bangladesh is really gender dominant and very proper in manners. This is country just barley the size of Iowa housing over 163 million people; the 8th most populated country in the world, and where most people live on just a dollar per day. About one third of Bangladesh’s population lives under poverty, and even a good percentage of those who are working, are working in very low income, paycheck to paycheck jobs; most of the time the working conditions and environments are not very suitable. Bangladesh is also a big clothing and garments producer in the world making and exporting clothing to many part of the world.
