Character- Massie- Massie is a rich 7th grader that really isn't that nice of a person. She only is nice to her posse and does not include anyone else into her little clique. Massie is the leader of her social group.”Kristen: Do we like her? Massie: No!”(41) This shows that Massie is the leader because her friends do whatever she says. Massie one day basically decides that Claire, the new girl in town, will be her target. She will embarrass her and torture her and do whatever she wants to her because Claire has no friends yet and isn't really the typical girl around all these rich girls. Massie thinks that she isn't hurting Claire enough and she isn't getting any reaction out of Claire really so Maisie gets her friends to tear her down right along side her. Claire- Claire is nothing like Massie, she isn't that rich, she is really kind and shy. This shyness doesn't really help Claire at all with her problems with Massie. Claire doesn't stand up for herself so she just lets Massie keep tearing her down. “ “Do you get to meet famous people all the time?” Claire asked. “Does she look the same in real life as she does on TV? Is she really dating Geraldo Rivera?” “That will be all for now, Barbara Walters,” Massie said. Claire fell back in her seat like she has been punched in the stomach. She decided not to say anything anymore. What was the point?”(44) But one good thing is that Claire doesn't really show effect in what Maisie and her posse is doing to her but this cause the bullying to get worse and worse. The main idea in this novel is the problems between mainly Massie and Claire. Massie does not like Claire at all for no reason. Massie just met Claire and immediately hates her. This means that the narrator is not taking place in the action in the novel but is telling you how the characters are feeling, what they are doing and what they say. “ Claire’s eyes widened when she saw the school she was expected to go to for the next ten months.” (47) Instead of saying my eyes widened the author wrote Claire’s so it is third person. The author wrote this story in chronological order. This means that the events in the plot are in number order or told in the order they happened in. “ An hour later Massie was sitting next to Isaac, her family’s driver, in the plush leather passenger seat of the family Range Rover.” (15) This shows that the authors is telling the story in chronological order because it says the word late which is a time word and a transition word.

In "Our Secret" by Susan Griffin, the essay uses fragments throughout the essay to symbolize all the topics and people that are involved. The fragments in the essay tie together insides and outsides, human nature, everything affected by past, secrets, cause and effect, and development with the content. These subjects and the fragments are also similar with her life stories and her interviewees that all go together. The author also uses her own memories mixed in with what she heard from the interviewees. Her recollection of her memory is not fully told, but with missing parts and added feelings. Her interviewee's words are told to her and brought to the paper with added information. She tells throughout the book about these recollections.
Has the United States government kept secrets from its citizens? Conspiracy theories have been posed throughout the history of our nation. A conspiracy theory is defined as “a theory that explains an event as being the result of a plot by a covert group or organization; a belief that a particular unexplained event was caused by such a group” (Dictionary). Is this an on-going theme in U.S. Government history? Many people believe that our government has purposely fabricated or withheld information regarding historical events; was the moon landing simulated, were service men murdered at Pearl Harbor, who really shot President Kennedy? On the other hand, there are strong believers that the United States government has not and will not deceive its citizens. The novel Real Enemies by Kathryn S. Olmsted enlightens readers regarding major U.S. political and historical events.
This story is in Third person limited view. This is because the author says more about Stevie than anyone else. Also, I know what stevie is thinking. The author is know doesn’t what everyone is thinking. I almost always know how Steevie feels, what he’s thinking and why he said something. But I only know this for steevie. Considering the author doesn't know what everyone is thinking.
Perhaps no other event in modern history has left us so perplexed and dumbfounded than the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany, an entire population was simply robbed of their existence. In “Our Secret,” Susan Griffin tries to explain what could possibly lead an individual to execute such inhumane acts to a large group of people. She delves into Heinrich Himmler’s life and investigates all the events leading up to him joining the Nazi party. In“Panopticism,” Michel Foucault argues that modern society has been shaped by disciplinary mechanisms deriving from the plague as well as Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon, a structure with a tower in the middle meant for surveillance. Susan Griffin tries to explain what happened in Germany through Himmler’s childhood while Foucault better explains these events by describing how society as a whole operates.
One of the central themes in writing of the second generation Asian Americans is the search of identity and individual acceptance in American society. In the last few decades, many Asian Americans have entered a time of increased awareness of their racial and cultural identity built on their need to establish their unique American identity. In the book The Joy Luck Club, which revolves around four mother-daughter Asian American families whose mothers migrated from China to America and raised their daughters as Americans, we see the cultural struggle and differences by looking at their marriages, suffering and sacrifice, and their use of language in the novel.

The story is told by the mother in the story. The theme of this story is that of a mother who is trying to cope with changing times and two daughters who are completely different. Having the story told from momma's point of view helps to reveal how momma feels about herself and how she defines her daughters Dee and Maggie.

In the complete opposite of the spectrum the narrator in The Lottery is written in third person objective. The narrator does not go into the thoughts and feelings of the characters. The use of “I” in the story causes the reader to follow along into the lottery drawing and conclusion of the story.
Montag is influenced by Clarisse a lot. And, her impact on him is tremendous. She questions his whole life, teaches him to appreciate the simple things, and to care about other people and their feelings. “You're peculiar, you're aggravating, yet you're easy to forgive..”(Bradbury 23) Through all Clarisse's questioning, Montag knows that she is trying to help him. Because of her help and impact on him, Montag is changed forever.
In Unwanteds, the author orders the events in sequential order, not necessarily by dates, but by when something happens. There were a few flashbacks, when Alex had his first infraction, going back to before he was 13, and the first day of Artimé, after being there awhile. The author actually doesn’t give any dates at all. The most Lisa McMann told us was the time of day. The events are instead just given to us in order, and it’s sort of up to you to keep track of the days, if you want to, but it isn’t essential.
The story follows three girls- Jeanette, the oldest in the pack, Claudette, the narrator and middle child, and the youngest, Mirabella- as they go through the various stages of becoming civilized people. Each girl is an example of the different reactions to being placed in an unfamiliar environment and retrained. Jeanette adapts quickly, becoming the first in the pack to assimilate to the new way of life. She accepts her education and rejects her previous life with few relapses. Claudette understands the education being presented to her but resists adapting fully, her hatred turning into apathy as she quietly accepts her fate. Mirabella either does not comprehend her education, or fully ignores it, as she continually breaks the rules and boundaries set around her, eventually resulting in her removal from the school.
This explains the reason it seems that the events of the plot are written in chronological order. Not only does it make the sense, I personally could not see the story written in any other way while still being understandable. For example, if the story were written in the order of compare and contrast, it would not make sense nor flow right. Same goes for if the story were written in the order of cause and effect. That is why it only makes sense for the story to be presented in chronological order.
The popular American Poet, Billy Collins, is playing a significant role in the evolution of poetry. His writing style evokes an array of emotions for the reader. Every stanza in his poetry passes the satirical standard that he generated for himself over his career. Collins swiftly captivates his readers through his diverse use of figurative language. More specifically, his use of vivid imagery paired with humorous personification and extended metaphors create his unique style of satirical poetry. This developed form of writing appeals to a large crowd of people because the generally accessible topics that he discusses are fairly easy to resonate for the common man. However, his poetry offers an interesting perspective on what otherwise would be simplistic ideas. The main themes and concepts that are being presented in each of his writings are revered and coveted by the general population. An appealing aspect of his writing is his ability to directly convey the main idea within the poem. As a result, the reader can understand the meaning of his work with ease. The typical beginning of his work gives the reader a slight taste of what is to come. Billy Collins’ unique writing style and various trademarks directly influenced by his ability to propagate an array of emotions for the reader, his humorous tone, and the accessibility of the topics he describes within his poetry.
Point of view is an essential element to a reader's comprehension of a story. The point of view shows how the narrator thinks, speaks, and feels about any particular situation. In Toni Cade Bambara's "The Lesson," the events are told through the eyes of a young, mischievous girl named Sylvia who lives in a lower class neighborhood. The reader gets a limited point of view of view because the events are told strictly by Sylvia. This fact can influence the reader to see things just as she does. The strong language gives an unfamiliar reader an illustration of how people in the city speak. Bambara does this to show the reader that kids from lower class neighborhoods are affected by their environment due to lack of education and discipline, that how different one part of society is from another, and that kids learn from experience. We also get an insight of Sylvia’s feisty, rebellious nature and her lack of respect towards people with an education.
