The Atmosphere and Oceans
The atmosphere is a cocktail of gases . The exact amounts of each gas
vary as the amount of water vapour is variable.

The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is tiny (0.01%).
The amounts of carbon dioxide and oxygen gas are balanced and stay the
same.
Photosynthesis in plants converts carbon dioxide into oxygen.
Breathing and burning convert oxygen into carbon dioxide.
Burning a lot of fossil fuels destroys the balance by putting a lot of
carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This traps the sun's rays and will
not allow them to escape, this is called the greenhouse effect. This
causes the earth to become hotter and is called global warming.
Problems caused by this are more violent weather and melting ice-caps
making the sea rise.
Burning fossil fuels that contain sulphur also makes the gas sulphur
dioxide which dissolves in clouds and causes acid rain. Problems
caused by acid rain include dissolving buildings and plant and animal
life being damaged.
In prehistoric times the atmosphere was made up of carbon dioxide and
ammonia.
The oceans formed by water dissolving salt from the rocks , this salt
stays in the oceans because it does not evaporate when water does.
Oil
===
Oil is formed over millions of years by the dead bodies of marine
animals decaying trapped under layers of sedimentary rocks. Rocks that
allow oil to pass through them are called permeable rocks. Oil becomes
trapped in pockets of rock that will not allow it to escape called
non-permeable rocks.
Oil is a non- renewable fuel because it takes a very long time to form
and it is being used faster than it is formed , it will eventually run
out.
Oil is made up of many different substances called hydrocarbons .
...e has become misleading, for it is used oil to justify subsidies for pork-barrel projects or mere sops to the industry, such as drilling for oil in the Alaskan wilderness. Given that America consumes a quarter of the world's oil but has barely three percent of its proven reserves, it will never be energy-independent until the day it stops using oil altogether.
Each time we use oil, even if we recycle, there will be a part lost for good. As such, hoping that the free market has the ability to allocate a nonrenewable resource over time efficiently (Stephen F. Williams) does not solve our oil problems now or in the future. A lack of oil, or energy, in a region commonly leads to poverty and fear (Gautier). This dependency on petroleum, or crude oil, could be damaging if the Earth runs out of this resource.
Nevertheless, at the end of the day, oil is not a renewable source and we will all stand aside and wonder what is next for the state of
Gasoline as we know it today comes from crude oil. Crude oil, which is a fossil fuel, is a nonrenewable (once its gone, its gone for good) fuel source. Fossil fuel is comprised of naturally decaying plants and animals which once lived in oceans and seas millions of years ago. Where we find crude oil deposits we also find ancient oceans and seabeds. When extracted from the earth, crude oil may have colors ranging from clear to jet black and resistance to flow or viscosity from water to a molasses type substance.
Petroleum is made from crude oil. Crude oil is a combination of many different hydrocarbons. Crude oil is considered a ‘fossil fuel’ because it is formed from deceased plants and animals.
“We are too busy to stop and think about the daily consumption of oil and gas, but almost everything we use or do has been produced using petroleum.” (Menezes,2014). Not many can understand that you can almost take anything you use in an everyday life and trace it back to petroleum oil. It is a huge commodity and sometimes I would believe that it can be just as important as water.
A non-renewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be re-made or re-grown at a scale comparable to its consumption. In addition, Nuclear Energy, Coal/Petroleum/Gas (Fossil Fuels), and Coal are all examples of this non-renewable resource. Nuclear energy, uses Uranium to create energy, and is a non-renewable resource because once the Uranium is used, it is gone. Coal, Petroleum, and Natural Gas are considered non-renewable because they cannot be replenished in a short period of time; these are called “Fossil Fuels”.
Semantically fossil fuels are a renewable source of energy, however given that it takes millions of years for the organic materials to be broken down and converted, it is wholly unrealistic to consider them as renewable. As the demand for fossil fuels increases and source diminish faster than they are replentished, the United States must work towards a renewable energy independent state using truly renable sources, both technically and in practice. With changes in the home, as consumers in buying goods and with alternative fuel sources backed by public trust and governmental involvement, the United States could drastically lessen its dependence on fossil fuels, foreign and domestic.
Oil is a significant, non renewable resource that is found underground and extracted through technological processes (Grubb). Consumption rates of the substance have never been higher. Oil remains to this day a vital aspect of production in industries like plastics, fertilizers, and asphalt. World oil consumption presently rests around 83 million barrels per day (...
Natural gas is not a renewable resource, since there is a fixed amount of it trapped in the Earth. However, many people think that there is a small amount of natural gas and that we may use it all up. This is not true. There was said to be a gas shortage in the 1970’s so prices of oil skyrocketed from three dollars a barrel to twelve dollars a barrel. In reality, this was an excuse prompted by the government's lack of faith in the industry's ability to discover and develop new reserves, and not by lack of gas supply. The disastrous impression left by the “shortages of gas” in the 1970's is that there is little gas left to be discovered and will soon run out . However, in reality, the gas resource base is massive, and probably even larger than
Humans are depleting the earth’s natural resources. We are using our resources at an unsustainable rate. One of our greatest resources is now beginning to deplete because of our growing population. This resource provides for us food, climate regulation, economy, transportation, and medicine. This very valuable resource is the ocean. By over fishing, certain fishing practices, marine pollution and habitat destruction we are diminishing our most valuable natural resource. The ocean provides for us many valuable resources we cannot replace, therefore we need to make a change.
Crude oil is one of the most important natural resource of the industrialized countries as well as one of the most versatile natural resources too. Crude oil can take thousands of years to form naturally and cannot be replaced as fast as they are being consumed. Because of this many scientist argue that because the time and process of producing crude oil it should be considered rather a non-renewable resource. Crude oil can be found in many of our everyday products such as plastics, detergents, paints, and even medicines in addition to fueling our multifaceted transportation system including airplanes, trains, vehicles, and big rig trucks. With the amount of industries that depend on crude oil, Earths ever increasing population, and the demand for crude oil we must develop alternatives to using crude oil. At our current rate of consumption, we could possibly deplete our current supply, then man us beneficiaries, would suffer. Think of all the things you could not do without crude oil? For instance, what if your home or business heating system was built using gas? How would your children get to school or you get to work
It is also nonrenewable. However there is still a large amount of oil left. There is a factor of its cost that is driven up because there is only so much left. However countries that rely on oil will pump it out as fast as possible if the can and need the money. That being said oil is run as a commodity so there is an acceptable global price that all oil is subject to. It gets passes on to the end of the line weither that ends at a company or a person. So however much oil there is on the market that makes the price as demand is ever increasing. That means that even though OPEC controls a lot of oil there are other countries that need the money and will take what they can get for
Earth is the only planet in the Solar System that has liquid water. The ocean contains ninety seven percent of the earth’s water and covers almost three quarters of the planet. There are four different oceans, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and the Arctic. Tides and currents occur in all three of these oceans. Many different kinds of fish and mammals also make their homes in these oceans. All of these oceans are connected to each other in some way. Humans find oceans to be very interesting, beautiful, and exploring.
