The SWOT analysis (abbreviation for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) is an essential tool in marketing for understanding and supporting decision-making in all kinds of situations in business and organisations. In brief, it provides an accurate context for studying strategies, positions and directions of a company proposition. It is used mainly for business planning, competitor evaluation, marketing, business and product development and research reports. SWOT analysis is also a widely recognised method for gathering, structuring, presenting and reviewing extensive planning data within a larger business or project planning process. (Chapman, 2014) The SWOT analysis conducted for Timberland, LLC and its casual line, the Timberland Boot Company® suggests the following: STRENGTHS Strengths refer to what the company or product are better and/or particularly better than its competitors. It is a factor that happens internally and currently to the organisation, giving the company advantage in the market that it operates in. • Branded – Timberland LLC is a well-known brand with a wild range of loyal customers. This fact increases the chances of the new collection, Timberland Boot Company® be a success, as people already trust in the quality of Timberland products; • Suitable for a number of occasions – The new line, Timberland Boot Company®, was designed for people that would like to wear a Timberland on many occasions, not only for outdoors activities. When people think about Timberland products, they create an image of the big yellow boots. However, the Timberland Boot Company® is more casual, being inspired in a period of transition during the Industrial Era in New England and Northern England, but still fashion, comfo... ... middle of paper ... ...ing similar products; • Unstable economy – Economy changes constantly. Changes in interest rates, inflation and unemployment rates affect the demand of the product; • A new legislation – The Government might, for instance, forbid the use of rubber or leather in productions, which would directly affect companies such as Timberland; • Global warming – If there is no control over the global warming, it might eventually decrease the demand of Timberland products, as the weather would be warmer than expected in places where the cold weather used to be predominant. In brief, the SWOT analysis conducted above has helped me to determine what can assist Timberland in reaching its objectives, as well as the obstacles that the company must overcome, minimize and/or improve to achieve desired results, showing where Timberland LLC stands now and where it could be in the future.
