I really enjoyed reading your post! It is atrocious that such a community event turned out to be a human sacrifice for the prosperity of the village. What made me clench my teeth was the macabre fact that Mrs. Tessie Hutchinson’s children and husband were among the villagers who stoned her to death. I agree with you on saying that the symbolism on this short story is very powerful. The superstition of the villagers was superior to their moral.
