People with substance use disorder come from all walks of life; rich and poor, men and women, young and old and from all cultures. “Some people are able to use recreational or prescription drugs without ever experiencing negative consequences or addiction” (Robinson 2015). Substances (such as meth, cocaine, marijuana and alcohol) abuse is a generally common disorder among many of today’s families, schools, and society as one. Substance such as Methamphetamine is man-made while cocaine is plant-derived. Marijuana is a Cannabis plant which is used as a recreational drug and also a medicine form. There are many forms of treatment for substance use disorder. First, Individual and Group Counseling may provide a recovery plan, a social environment for seeking recovery, and can lead one to reduce or eventually stop abusing substances. During this style of treatment counselors are provided to people in treatment giving a variety of therapies. It was said, “Some common therapies include cognitive-behavioral therapy teaches individuals in treatment to recognize and stop negative patterns of thinking and behavior. For instance, cognitive-behavioral therapy might help a person be aware of the stressors, situations, and feelings that lead to substance use so that the person can avoid them or act differently when they occur”(Samhsa 2014 ). Another form of treatment would be a joining a program. For example, a 12-step program will guide and support a person whom is facing substance abuse disorder. Treatment can also be provided in inpatient or residential setting. Group counseling allows one to hear another person struggle, which can sometimes reduce one’s personal stress on their own struggles and give an alternate feeling or perception. Now individual counseling requires Full attention, one-on-one care which identifies the problem and circumstances by discovering one’s challenges. Individual and group counseling is similar I believe because it allows a person to build social skills, also allows a person to express their personal pain and trials in life. To conclude there are many forms of treatment for someone who is having a substance abuse problem.
