In this interview, it talked about how Steeler got involve in Multicultural Education. In the early 1970, Steeler began work on multicultural education, she began teaching a diverse classroom in Seattle Public school system. Steeler help with many things like; multicultural education, multicultural curriculum development, white teacher identity studies, social justice education, critical family history, and the ethnic studies movement. In 2000, Steeler provided her feedback on the standardized curriculum accountability, her input was comprehensive literature over the multicultural education issues on supported teacher education. Steeler published over 20 books, dealing with multicultural education.

Steeler felt like it was very important for her to be co-construct teacher. By that she means, “played the lead role toward academic teaching and learning but did so very much in a conversation with my students’ cultural backgrounds, interests, academic levels, learning styles, and other considerations (page 10).” she felt like interaction between her and her student were very important. In 1970, Steeler got in the Carol program to receive her PhD, this was the start of her involvement in multicultural education.
Steeler really didn’t pay attention in the Civil right movement. However, the civil right movement play a key role in multicultural education. Steeler talk about as a white teacher; she feels like it’s important to be involve in multicultural curriculum and teaching. She feels like; as a teacher, we should be involving or have some knowledge about our student life. Steeler stated, that white teacher need to learn how to interact with their student of color, and also feel like white teacher should talk more about race to their student and the student parents. Steeler talk about, how to become a good multicultural teacher, is being a good teacher. She feels like all teacher should know
