Mary O’Hara wrote about comedy for a BBC article titled “How Comedy Makes us Better People”: “Comedy is more than just a pleasant way to pass an evening, humour more than something to amuse. They’re interwoven into the fabric of our everyday existence. Whether you’re sharing an amusing story down the pub, making a self-deprecating joke after someone pays you a compliment or telling a dark joke at a funeral, humour is everywhere. (O’Hara)” This is certainly an accurate statement about modern comedy. Comedy is not sadness, but rather a way to forget the woes of everyday life.
The best jokes are normally rich and interesting in detail. The more specific the joke, the more it is likely to resonate with your audience. As a precaution do not use accent if you have not mastered since this will ruin the joke even if it has great content. Keep with the rhythm and the flow of the story since this will improve your chances of getting it right. Jokes are the perfect weapon of turning a grim and boring day or event into an exciting and extraordinary one.
After analyzing Jim Gaffigan, Dane Cook, and Maz Jobrani we see the true genius it takes to be a successful comedian. Through their work, comedians have manipulated minds and infiltrated society’s way of thinking. Humor is a powerful tool and it is important to recognize the way it works so that positive messages can be sent to audiences rather than detrimental ones. Jokes and puns become an intricate cover-up to new thoughts and ideas. Next time we hear a comedian, we can remember the methods used to evaluate a routine and decide if we will support the implicit messages being conveyed by these goofballs.
A sitcom such as ‘The Simpson’s’ is vastly popular because they are not afraid to tackle real life issues, which are in-fact very diverse and controversial. Homer doesn’t always get along with his in laws. Bart is very naughty, but we still understand where he’s coming from. Lisa is very clever and she does sometimes get some grief for being too clever. The Simpson family are not rich and do go through money problems just like the rest of us.
Another type of humor is stands up comedy usually for stand up comedy there is a person on stage or preforming somewhere just saying a bunch of jokes or funny stories. Some example of stand up comedians are Fluffy, or Kevin Hart of course, there are many more stand up comedians but those two are my favorite. Without these types of humor, nothing would be funny. All types of humor give us something to laugh about and something to
Humor is an essential part of my daily life. Causing someone to laugh and feel amused varies from person to person. What I find funny may not be funny to others. My sense of humor may vary, from watching comedy movies, to late night comedy talk shows. What I find mostly funny are Internet memes or funny Internet videos, because they have both been modified into distinct funny phrases or modified into funny videos that cause humor and they are always new ones being created, you can also share them to give someone else laughter.
(Morreall). All the comedy shows and movies have shown the audience to work hard in stimulating the humor to people. As we discussed some ideas about the humor in enjoyment, I considered that I find laughing and amusing can help people to get the sense in positive
Walden stated it best, “To Simon the ideal play is where the audience laughs all night but in the last few minutes is touched by a sense of tragedy” (MELUS 81). In all Simon’s works the audiences becomes captivated by the laughs but are touched by the reality. Neil Simon utilizes buffoon comedy by contrasting characters. He creates over-dramatizations in order for the subtleties of character to emerge. This stark contrast of characters brings attention to their behavior which can be at its worst, rash and ex... ... middle of paper ... ...eatre has failed them.
In spite of the recent incline in action and horror movies today, comedy movies has always been my number one choice because it gives people an opportunity to look at humor in life, it usually has a pointless, useless moral that we can relate to, and it allows you to look at things in a new light and possibly expand your horizon to become a more optimistic person. All comedies always have one essential ingredient to make it a great comedy, humor. All comedies give people an opportunity to look at humor in life and laugh at it. Comedies usually show a hilarious scene for people to enjoy and laugh at. Many scenes which has a outburst of crazy and ridiculous moments will not usually happen in our daily life, but its fun to enjoy.
Today, comedy news shows are becoming more and more popular, and in so, becoming a new source of information – which may, or may not, be a good thing. Most comedians twist the truth in order to connect to people and make them laugh, and some “use logic to make painful things make sense” (O’Hara 108) according to Mary O’Hara’s article “A Serious Business: What Can Comedy Do?” Satirical comedy acts as a relief mechanism in that it comforts people that may be wary about a certain subject, especially in the realm of politics. Similarly, Peter McGraw and Joel Warner talk about how comedy can act as a coping mechanism, but they also add that “activists all over the world have been using comedy as a form of political protest” (McGraw & Warner 147).
