Southwest has some of the happiest customers in the industry and they stand by Southwest no matter what. Some of these reasons are Southwest’s employees, transparency, and reliability. Southwest is known for being a discount airline. This is usually associated with low fares and low-end service. This is not the case at Southwest. The service is second to none. This is because the employees are cared for and have more freedom than most. They also are cared for more than other airline employees and fear less about their job. While most others in the industry have gone bankrupt in the past 15 years, Southwest has consistently made profits (Kenny, 2011). It all comes down to the culture and business practices formed in the beginning. Southwest was designed to be efficient. Employees help each other out and seek the best ways to do things. This culture has led to high efficiency, without sacrificing the customer service that sets them apart. Southwest is also a great investment. Southwest stock has risen since it went public in 1978. It started at $.07 a share to generate funds in order to expand and is now at over $47 per share (Southwest Airlines Co.). This is a high return in an industry where investments are so uncertain. Not only have a lot of other airlines gone bankrupt, their stocks also highly fluctuate (Kenney, 2011).
