Snowflake Myth In the realm of the gods , a place where the gods lived in peace apart from the mortals on earth ,lived Aithne the god of fire , he lived in the kingdom of fire , a place cover in flames and ashes like the purgatory underneath us.Aithne was one of the most powerful in gods in the realm ,he was a great leader and had great abilities on the battlefield. He was in love with the goddess of Ice , her name was Lumi ,she governed in the Kingdom of the Frozen Souls , the coldest place of the realm. She was also in love with him . Aithne love for her was unimaginable , but they could not be together because Lumi as the goddess of ice she cannot stand fire at all consequently this cause Aithne to go crazy , he grew a lot of anger in his interior .In a explosion of anger , Aithne told Lumi that he will assassinate anybody who tried to be with her. After this Aithne went into a massive depression , moreover he got away from the world that surrounded him. His life and his kingdom was falling apart. …show more content…

The battle was a closed one until Aithne landed a brutal strike on Maji's chest. Maji was on the ground after that big blow , Aithne was ready to give the final strike against Maji . With a cocky look he stood up in front of him and then he closed his eyes and blindly swung the sword towards Maji ,then he opened his eyes and saw Lumi laying down next to Maji with the sword on her hearth. Both gods were in shock . Lumi was deceased ,but none of them wanted to lose her, so they decided to throw her into the mortal realm, earth. This was the only way to rescue her since a god can only rebirth again in another realm. While she was falling from the sky , her body transformed into millions of pieces of snowflakes. She redeemed herself as snowflakes , now she reigns the cold winters of the mortal's

Perhaps lost amidst the smells of the strawberry fields, the cold of the winter storm, and the deep social statements about the nature and quirkiness of prejudice is the fact that this beautifully crafted story of immense complexity is in reality a very simple story about the identity of one man. Guterson himself says, "Post-modernism is dead because it didn't address human needs. The conventional story endures because it does. I'm interested in themes that endure from generation to generation" (qtd. in Kanner). This book is a conventional story, a simple story about the internal battle of Ishmael Chambers as he struggles with himself. This is made evident in the subtle and not too subtle comparisons made between Ishmael and other characters. Taking all of this into account reveals that the true theme of the book centers on the transformation of Ishmael from weak to strong.
