In 1619, Africans served as indentured servants, who earned land and freedom in exchange of seven years of hard labor. Indentured servants include 20 kidnapped Africans who were brought in Virginia(an isolated British settlement on Chesapeake Bay) on White Lion, a badly damaged Dutch ship. The colonist had no intention of slavery, they was shortage of labor. Even though they were workers like poor European workers, they were counted as workers but, without rights. Later, slavery was introduced in 1641 in America. Those indentured servants and other Africans who were brought to United States were now properties of white people. As slavery increased, the colonists became wealthy. Some became wealthy on plantation, while others on business of transporting slaves and some on transporting the products made on farms. In 1660, England’s King Charles 2 established Royal African Company, which transported Africans to America as slaves. During that time, Africans were called Black Gold.
