Slavery has played a major role in the history of the United States. It has existed thoughout most of the human history and is still practiced in some parts of the world. Throughout history various legal, social, economic, and philosophical arguments typically involving prejudices of race, color, nationality, or religion were made to justify the slavery in the United States.
