Single women that have a career and a family are bestowed life’s toughest challenge. Today, more than any other time in history, millions of women face the dilemma of single parenthood and a demanding career. They have the daunting task of juggling the responsibilities of parenthood and being the primary breadwinner. A successful single working mother makes handling a career and family appear effortless, but in reality much planning, organizing, and time management skills become the foundation that helps to hold the balancing act together. Combining motherhood with a career is not easy, but those that are successful carry similar traits. A successful single working mother can be defined as one that creates a great support system, is an expert at time management and organization, and makes a firm commitment to both family and career. First, a single working mother must incorporate a good support system in order to achieve consistency in daily life. The successful single working mother today leaves behind the image of the super mom role and builds a viable support system. She realizes a significant part of that support system is finding the right day care that is reliable and a good environment for her children. She also establishes a good back-up system, knowing that it may be necessary at times to rely solely on family members and friends when deadlines at work approach and the children become sick. Another support system for single working mothers today is having the financial ability to hire a home cleaning service or a lawn care service, so that the precious time off of work can be spent enjoying activities with the children. Most mothers have decided to relax the standards a bit when it comes to the traditional house chor... ... middle of paper ... ...tation with a best friend, feeling it is far better to retreat then to risk losing the relationship. Unity in the relationship is maintained because each person provides unconditional respect. While marriages fail, and families get in disputes, it is always the best friend that stands in allegiance during life’s most difficult moments. In conclusion, friends play an important role in a person’s life. It is friends that are called upon when life’s struggles get overwhelming. Finding that one special friend, that we call best friend can be challenging, but well worth the energy. While not all friendships last forever, some will remain just as brief encounters; however, each leaves an indelible mark in the minds of those they touched. Having a group of casual friends to enjoy adventures is fun, but having a best friend is one of the greatest gifts that life offers.
The idea of this article is to help out all the single mothers that raise healthy and strong children. She fights against these stereotypes and studies that say that single mothers are bad and raise bad children. All families are different, which Roiphe explains too, and so many outside factors come into play when raising a bad child and a good child. These studies do not show those, and she sheds light onto them. She compares and contrasts the conservative and liberal views to divide the readers in which one they stand, so then they can understand her whole
When people hear the words “stay-at-home mom” a lot of things come to mind. Some may think of a lazy woman who is not contributing to society, or some might think of a woman who is trying to make the best decision for her children. This wide range of reactions to the words “stay-at-home mom” has been going on for years. More specifically, in the last couple of decades, mothers across the nation have been criticised and/or praised for their choice to enter the workforce. In a society with the muajority of mothers joining or returning to the workforce, there is a growing body of research documenting the demands placed on these women and what can be done to help their transition into this new role. According to the United States’ Department of Labor, in the year 2012, 70.5% of mothers with children under the age of 18 were a part of the workforce; of these women 73.7% were employed full-time, working over 35 hours a week, and 26.3% were employed part-time, working less than 35 hours a week (United States Department of Labor, 2012). Given this information, it is becoming more important to further research how this new role as an employee affects the role of parenting and what can be done to help this transition. The intent of this paper is to compare the experiences of a working mother to the current research on the topic of working mothers. Moreover, this paper addresses the demands placed on working mothers as well as the factors that ameliorate their transition into this new role.
The first article relates to the relatively new phenomenon of the choice of single motherhood and the pros and cons of it. The second deals with the single mother’s stress and states that social support can be a positive influence in a single mother household. Both articles similarly discuss the theme of social support and how vital it is for single mothers. Whether it comes from friends who provide “affective needs, thus reducing personal loneliness” or families, who “are more likely to meet instrumental needs by direct provision of material assistance” (Marks & McLanahan, 1993; D’Ercole, 1988), social support was deemed necessary in both articles and due to this overlap, I was able to further narrow down my research. The information provided in these articles gave a lot of perspectives to the topic of single motherhood and helped me gain more knowledge on this difficult subject, which has been helpful in narrowing down the ideas and issues that need

For many years, single parents who have being raising their sons alone have been looked at different angles when it comes to the building the child’s environment and providing their needs. Being raised by a single parent, it looks impossible to many people yet over the last 30 years it has become more common and ubiquitous to the modern world that we are living in today. In today’s world, many children raised by a single parent have become highly motivated and emotionally balanced to obtain what they want in future just as does raised with both parents (father and mother). Moreover, they have become very lucrative even if they had being raised by a single or two parent to show them the right way that life entrusted upon all of them. The differences lies on the child raised by a single parent and children raise by both father and mother. How many parents does a child need to become successful? What role do his father and mother play in his life? Who will the son or child look up to as a role model? Who will be in charge of the child’s everyday needs? With so much to guess around the child, this topic has become more absorbing for arguments to why single parents can be just as two parents raising a child.

Companies should offer more job opportunities to single mothers. A study realized in 2015 by the United States Census indicates that there are around 5.2 million of stay-at-home moms in married couple families; however, 9.9 million women are single mothers, and they cannot choose to stay at home or go to work. For that reason, most of the single mothers are obligated to work because they are the breadwinners and the only household support. Considering this, companies should promote single mothers for senior positions earlier than women and men without responsibilities. In the book Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg explains that many women hold themselves back for fear of having more obligations (149).Consequently, single mothers are included in this group of individuals who evade high-level jobs for apprehension of not fulfilling the requirements that the job requires. Nonetheless, single mothers should not be concerned because, according to Sandberg, “Parents have to make adjustments, compromises, and sacrifices every day” (122). Adaptation is the clue to succeed in a new job, and single mothers can easily learn to balance their time
What is a “best friend”? Almost everyone has one, and almost everyone is one. There’s something about a best friend that cannot be duplicated. Everyone has their own definition of what their own best friend is like and what an impact he or she has made in their life. In this essay I would like to take a better look at some of the simple things that we might take for granted when we think of our best friends.
Everyone has had a best friend at some point in their life. Sometimes it lasts for months or for years. Sometimes they’re your friends for 2 years more or less and you think nothing can come between you you’re the best of friends what could go wrong and then something does whether it’s big or little. Usually it helps you see all the problems that were building up and you start to realize the flaws in your friendship that you ignored before like how after they leave sometimes there’s something missing or how the treat your siblings or even you, or anything and you wonder why you put up with it for so long. The thing about a good friendship is when you get in a disagreement you work it out, realize and what you both did wrong, apologize and try to fix it, although sometimes the friendship isn’t worth repairing. Well I’ll be telling you about my best friend, how we’ve been friends through the ups and downs…most of the time.
Friendships are one of the most important things you can get out of life. It’s something that everyone has to have because without it we would all go insane. Just think if no one talked to each other and we never made friends, this world would be a ticking time bomb. Studies say human need friendships and love to survive. So friendship is a big part of your life.
Aristotle once said “Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.” True friendship is a bond built off of selflessness and trust for it seeks happiness and good in another. People can give and take, but only true friends give without expecting anything in return. True friends play a major role in a person’s life and will listen more than lecture; help more than criticize, and understand one’s weaknesses while still focusing stolidly on the strong qualities of that person. They are the people that stick by one’s side and support them in their darkest hour no matter what. The four main qualities that define a true friend are loyalty, understanding, encouragement, and a positive influence.
