No matter how strong a structure’s foundation is, it will one day fall. Whether that be a crumbling mansion, a palace exposed to “evil things”, or a man going insane. Edgar Allan Poe shows this many times in his story, “The Fall of the House of Usher”. The poem, “The Haunted Palace”, is a metaphor for insanity that closely follows the plot of, “The Fall of the House of Usher”. Throughout the course of the story, Roderick Usher slowly goes insane. This is due to the death of his twin sister and his decaying physical body. The poem, “The Haunted Palace”, is a metaphor for insanity that follows the plot of the story.
