Every year there is always a debate over raising the age at which teenagers should get their permit to drive. There are always questions about the danger of raising the age of getting a permit. I believe that raising the age to a driver’s permits is a safe and positive decision. It would reduce crashes and injuries, and save lives of teenagers and those involved. Most auto accidents are the cause of the death of so many teenagers. There is a twice as much chance for a sixteen-year-old to die in a car accident than a thirty-year-old. Today there are many issues over texting while driving which is a distraction to the driver which is a cause of an accident. I believe the age at which teenagers drive should be raised, because of the danger they give to themselves and to others. Many teenagers around the age of 15-19 are easily distracted by their phones while driving. A big fatality can occur from a simple distraction. If the age was raised to 18, they can learn the dangers and effects a simple distraction can make. A longer course can teach students that every decision has an effect on the road.
I also believe that raising the age to 18 will give a driver more experience with a car. To get a license, they have to have at least 60 hours of driving, and must pass the driver’s exam test. Many people assume that after passing all of these requirements they would be an experienced driver, but some are not. While waiting in the grocery parking lot, I notice how bad a driver pulls out of the parking and wonder how they got their license. By raising the age to 18 a teenager can have more experience with a car. It will give them more time to learn how to drive and how a car can affect
