I have read lots of articles, and i have come to the conclusion that Pit Bulls should be allowed as pets. Some reasons are that first of all they were here before US as HUMANS! And a pitbull once saved an entire army platoon from a gas attack! How many dogs have done that.
My first reasons are they used pitbulls in the Army. A pitbull named Stubby was an american war hero! “He was injured twice”, and was still alive to be “awarded military medals”, not to mention the first ever dog to earn military awards. “Stubby was also the unofficial mascot of the 102nd infantry”.
The pitbull has also been trashed in the media. I mean the media “initially over reports on the pitbull”, but not any other dog breed. “The media also keeps completely silent
Perhaps the reason why pit bulls are feared by society is because we are afraid of what they are associated with. Pit bulls are often thought of as a gangster’s pet, a role in violent and illegal activities. People stereotype this breed because of the unfortunate acts of few. In contrast, society needs to understand that they are being racist towards a breed of dog. Denver’s systematic killing of pit bulls could be compared to the actions of the Nazis during the Holocaust.

Dog fighting made a comeback during the 1980s and the pit bull became the favorite macho dog for dog fighters. The dogs were trained to kill or be killed. Pit bulls were also the preferred guard dog for gangs, thugs and criminals. Since the supporters and detractors of pit bulls hold such disparate opinions regarding the ferocity of the breeds, it is only hoped that further discussion and education will help resolve the sad fate that awaits these unfortunate animals. Simply placing all the blame on the breeds will not solve the problems of dog fighting, overbreeding, aggressive training, and excessive euthanizations. Lastly, the biased, sensationalistic publicity of horrific dog attacks which has destroyed the reputation of the once beloved All American Dog must cease.
I believe that all people should be allowed to have any type of dog that they want. It’s just odd how people think that pit bulls are dangerous or vicious.

One reason Pit Bulls should not be banned is because they can be very helpful to humans. For example, pit bulls were once kept as hunters and guardians. Today, they are even being used as service dogs for people in need. There was also a pit bull named, Stubby, who saved his entire platoon from a poisonous gas attack. One reason people are so frightened of pitbulls is for their roles in street gangs. They are often used as what law enforcement has begun to deem, Are all pit bulls subjected to the life of gangs or forced into a fighting ring? No, but it is the dogs that are and have become violent because of their mistreatment that get in the media which leads to the public fearing all pit bulls.
The misrepresentation of Pit Bull breeds in the media has been reflected in American culture. As these dogs were incorporated into World War I propaganda, they were perceived as symbols of courage and strength, the archetype of American dog breeds5. When, in the 1920s and 1930s, American Staffordshire Terrier “Pete the Pup” starred in the comedy Our Gang, later known as The Little Rascals, Pit Bulls were considered “nanny dogs” and family-friendly pets7. When the media focused heavily on illegal dog fighting rings and gang culture in the 1970s and 1980s, Pit Bulls were called demonic and unpredictable. Through their many roles, they have shown versatility and resilience, and lately they have suffered greatly.
Pit Bulls are without a doubt my favorite dog, I adore them. Pit Bulls are very well tempered, loyal, and resilient animals. Bred for big game hunting, Pit Bulls are strong, fierce animals and people who have the wrong intentions for ownership should never own them. I am a strong believer that a potential pet owner should do lots of research before getting any type of animal, without exception. Owners should do as much research before getting a dog as they do in planning for a new home or any other new family member. One of the main things to really think about and understand is your intentions for your selection of an animal with the breeding of the Pit Bull. If you choose a dog with the wrong intentions, specifically a Pit Bull, you will get a dog that behaves aggressively and is dangerous. This owner behavior is what has caused the current plight of the Pit Bull today, where laws have been passed in thirteen states and hundreds of municipalities, as well as every U. S. Military base, banning the ownership of the breed and forcing shelters to euphonize Pit Bulls within 24 hours. These laws are unjust and cruel, and victimize the breed based on the owners’ behavior. I also argue that the blame for the epidemic proportions that the laws have reached is 100% the fault of owners who purposely acquired the Pit Bull with the intention to abuse and fight the dogs, and that these owners are the ones who should be punished, not the dogs. Since then, there has been a constant argument about whether or not this breed should be allowed to be kept as a pet. No one looks at pit bulls as normal dogs anymore. They are viewed as monsters. They have a crazy amount of strength, speed, and stamina. This can be used against them or for them depending on who is debating the issue of their legality.
Historians who study World War 1 have argued about Stubby’s importance on many occasions. An argument that comes up frequently is this; Is Stubby is only regarded as famous in the world of military animals because he was the first American military dog? Although his actions were great, they were not incredibly unique, as European war dogs had been involved in battle too, and had been doing just as well as Stubby for a longer amount of time (Tamara). However, whether or not Stubby’s actions warrant fame and recognition is irrelevant. It is irrefutable that Stubby’s military performance during World War 1 was extraordinary, but he is so well known because he is credited as the dog that broke the mold, so to speak, and began the integration of American dogs into war. Dogs have been used in police and military affairs in Europe since the medieval times, but dogs only began to appear in the United States over the past 100 years or so (Thompson). Before World War 1, Americans viewed the use of animals in combat as inhumane and odd. Despite this, when the United States first joined the war, Britain and France provided the American army with European dogs to use for fighting. It was acceptable for Americans to use European dogs, but it was frowned upon to bring American dogs from across the Atlantic (Thompson). What changed in the United States that allowed dogs to be integrated into the service of the country over such a short period of time? The answer to this would be an article published by the New York Times in May of 1917. Stubby was written about in the New York Times, and almost immediately afterwards, the average American’s view of a dog’s role in warfare changed drastically (Zimmerman).
Pitbulls should be allowed as pets. They are a symbol of pride. According to the text it states in paragraph three “Pit bulls became a symbol of American pride, and their image was used on posters to recruit soldiers during World War One.” This practically means that the pit bulls are someone that was in the armed forces which is a dog serving for us and helping the soldiers.
There are a lot of facts and information about pit bulls that the public does not know. The media blows things way out of proportion with this breed of dog and doing simple research can shed some light. “There are three main types of ‘pit bulls,’ they are the Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, and American Staffordshire Terriers” (Pit Bull Rescue Center). The Staffordshire bull terrier is originally from England. When it was brought over to the states it was bred with other terriers and the American Staffordshire came to be. Often times people classify dogs that look a certain way as pit bulls, when in fact they are an entirely different breed or a mix of some sort.
Pit bulls are Good Pets Don't judge a book by its cover. Over the years, pit bulls have gotten a bad reputation. It is true that there have been a lot of injuries, but have there been just as many injuries from other breeds of dogs. I think that if you raised them in a loving environment, trained them properly, and if the media stopped reporting injuries, this breed of dog would be more accepted by the public. Proving that pit bulls get the short end of the stick and can make great pets.
Thesis Statement: Pit bulls are like any breed of dogs that needs to be handled properly by their owners because they can be taught to be less aggressive and more loyal.
