It was a cold December Wednesday night that I will never forget. I was in second grade, and a year that I did not spend much of at my real home. There was dark murky smoke all throughout the long unexpecting night. It seemed like a normal day, woke up, went to school, came home, eat dinner, have a bath, brushed my teeth and was ready for bed. We were all sitting in the living room watching the news. Well, all except my sister, who was laying in her bed trying to sleep. It was 9:33 P.M. We had had Shake’N Bake pork chops, homemade mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls. It seemed like a good dinner, which it was, until what happened afterward. Since it was late December, it was very cold. We had decided to light the fire in the fireplace. The fireplace had not been cleaned out since two years before. The smoke should go up through the chimney, but it was starting to fill the house. Dad knew something was weird, something was odd. He went outside and walked around the house to see if something was going on. He came back and said he didn’t see anything. At least that is what he thought. The …show more content…
My Mom ran inside and grabbed the dogs, but the cat was nowhere in sight. We all got outside and Mom said to sit in the truck with the dogs. She grabbed the telephone and called the nearest fire department. Dad had decided to open up the attic, which is where the fire was, and a great mass of smoke swallowed Dad. It was as dark as the night sky. Mom was shaking so horribly after the phone call, she dropped the phone in the bushes, and could not find it until the next morning. Then, we waited. About three minutes later, eight fire trucks came down the road. Some from one way and some from the other. Mom thought we would get to stay in the house that night, but we weren’t. We knew it would be a long time until we got back in the house, when they started tearing down the ceiling with an
The only ones still awake within an hour of Thanksgiving dinner were me and the dog. The dog sat hopefully underneath the table, waiting for the weight of the food to bring the whole mess crashing down to her. I sat on the back porch and watched my family sprawled across the living room like the aftermath of an inquest.
Months later, I woke up and walked down stairs to make my oats. I walked downstairs and was looking for my Father. I looked everywhere in the house before I noticed he was no-where to be found. Then I walked into the living room and saw my Mother. She was hysterical. Tears were running down her cheek like the Mississippi flowed into the Gulf of Mexico.
As I walked to school with my lunch that was in a plastic bag. Once we got into school and got in the building my teacher Mr. Williams took attendance and five minutes later we turned around and got on the bus. It was windy and there were leaves blowing all over the place. Last year my 5th grade at John Stewart elementary school was going to Leroy Oakes in St. Charles for team building. It was a fall day and it was chilly. I had my drawstring on my back with my lunch and had three coats on. We turned onto a road called Dean Street and it was bordered by grass. I saw the Leroy Oaks sign, and my bus went over a speed bump that threw my class off balance. After awhile my class off the bus with a skip and a jump in my step. Then I was super excited that our
On the day that the flood had hit, it was raining cats and dogs. Speaking of dogs, our dog was floating around the house on a door which looked pretty funny but then I felt pretty bad for her. Anywho, in the evening we got picked up in a bus and they took us to a school near by called
When I received this phone call, I was at dinner with friends. I was in immediate shock; you never know what to expect when your phone rings. This was one of the biggest incidents to take place in awhile. I was rushing getting into my car. During an unexpected incident like this, I had to think of my initial
When I was little, me and my family were sitting in the living room and watching T.V. and the next thing we hear is the doorbell. When my mom opened the door our family friend Mary, told my mom that she had dropped her keys in the dumpster and needed me and my
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
The day after my birthday. I drove home from a regular night at work, smelling like the french fries and burgers that I served to the Wendy’s guests just half an hour earlier. It wasn’t that late, only 10 pm. The lights were still on downstairs, which meant my mother wasn’t quite in bed yet. I walked into the front door and looked into the empty living room.
It was the day that scared everyone around the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. I recall that I was inside cuddling with Roman. Anna was working at the Chernobyl power Plant. The night was quiet and peaceful the only sounds coming from outside were crickets. The sounds of chirping crickets, oh how I adored that desynchronize melody.
On that fateful day in March, I was a couple months shy of my third birthday. My family and I lived in New Mexico at the time and were renting a house with an outdoor in-ground pool. The day was beautiful. I was outside with my oldest sister Rachel and my father. Rachel was diligently reading curled up on a bench that sat against the house, and my father was mowing the backyard. My mother and my other sister were in the house. Off to one side of the house there was a group of large bushes. I was playing over there with one of her large cooking pots, off in my own little world. At one point while amusing and en...
All of a sudden the gate closed and all the lights in the house turned on. There was no car in the driveway, no noise coming from the house, and no person has lived in this house for the last 44 years. Or at least that is what everyone thought. As we all walked up to the door of the house, everyone started to panic.
I remember this specific morning as if it happened yesterday. I woke up from the sound of my mother walking through the front door. It was eight o’clock in the morning and she was just getting home from her twelve hour night shift at the hospital. When I woke up it was rather hard for me to breathe or to even close my mouth. I immediately got up to go see my mother and I will never forget the look on her face when she saw me.
It was a late fall night in 1970 and I was driving home from a camping trip with my wife. We were talking about all the chores we have to do when we get home like feed all the animals and clean the house up to make it look presentable. We were deep into our conversation when a grey streak bolted out from the bushes and I swerved. The tires screeched, and we crashed into a on the other side of the road. I asked my wife Lisa if she was alright
My father's eyes opened, and he called out for my sister Kelly and I to come to him. In a very serious and sad voice, he told us that he was very sick, and he was going to the Fort Wayne hospital. My mother told Kelly and I to help her pack some things for him, because he was going to be leaving soon. We helped her pack, keeping quiet because we did not want to interrupt the silence that had taken over the room.
It was Friday morning and I was in the 5th grade at the time. My father decided to pull both me and my brother out of school. My mother wasn’t home. She had already gone up to the hospital with my grandmother.
