My film topic that I chose to analyze is Saving Private Ryan. It took place during World War I in Normandy. Miller receives orders to find Private Ryan and bring him back to base to be shipped home. Miller gathers a group of soldiers and goes behind enemy lines to retrieve the paratrooper whose brother had been killed in action. Upon arriving at the camp site were a group of paratroopers and Ryan was one of them. Ryan is told of his brother’s death and the mission to bring him home. He is distressed at the loss of his brother, but he does not feel it is fair enough to send him home asking the soldiers who came to rescue him to tell his mother to stay with the only brothers he has left. Making this the second highest grossing film of that year. Due to the many award it was nominated for it went on to be released on home video earing forty-four million dollars in the year of 1994. Solider may not talk about the time the spent at war or where they were stationed but they haven’t forgotten about the experience of being in battle or being stationed overseas. Some men go onto be soldiers, others go on to do what they think might help the world. When heading into such a dark place they are taught to leave every part of home life behind, to have your head on straight. When your head is not on straight you compromise the men and women who are with you, and lives can be endangered. The moral of Saving Private Ryan is that when you become a solider you are taught to kill your enemy whether the person deserves to live or die, whether or not that person is an enemy.
